The New Jersey Devils are starting their new season this week. They look to bounce back from back-to-back seasons without a playoff appearance. Luckily, they didn't lose any major free agents or have any stars retire this offseason. That leaves room for some bold predictions about their season.

This shouldn't be a bold prediction, but it is when they went defeated in the shootout last season. They have better shooters on this team, and Reid Boucher will spend some time with the pro club. He is their best shootout participant and can score on most of his opportunities.

The Metropolitan Division is wide open this season. Outside of the Pittsburgh Penguins, most wouldn't be surprised if the other seven teams finish second or last. With Cory Schneider in net for a majority of their games, they will get enough wins to crack the top three and make the playoffs.

3. Jaromir Jagr Will Raise His Point Count

This is extremely bold, seeing how Jaromir Jagr is going to be 43 years old and he needs to break 67 points to improve. With Michael Cammalleri on his line (over some of the players he was stuck with last season), there can only be improvement.

2. Cory Schneider Will Lead the League In GAA

Cory Schneider is the reason why the Devils will have a successful season. They were relying on an older Martin Brodeur for too long. Now they have a capable young gun who can play 60-70 games a year. He led the league in goals against average among starters last season, and he will do it again this year.

The trade deadline will not be the same jumble it was last year, but the Devils will be making headlines. They will be in a serious race in the Metro, and Lou Lamoriello will pull the trigger on something huge to give his team an edge.
