AHL Goalie David Leggio Knocks Over Own Net to Avoid Breakaway
If you ever have a question about the rules of hockey, you’d be safe to ask David Leggio, the goalie for the AHL‘s Bridgeport Sound Tigers.
Facing a two-on-one breakaway, the Sound Tigers’ goalie turned around and knocked his own net off of the moorings. So instead of facing two players, he got a penalty called on himself, which brought about a one-on-one penalty shot. To make him seem like even more of a genius, Leggio ended up stopping the penalty shot, allowing him to escape the situation unscathed. The game, however, ended 4-3 in favor of the other team.
It seems like a cheap move, but it worked out pretty well. Expect to see this in the NHL soon.
