The Avalanche are facing a tough test early in 2015: they have to go to Chicago and try to beat the Blackhawks in their own building. This a big divisional matchup against one of the best teams in the Central. A win here could be pivotal in giving the Avalanche the confidence they need going forward. Every divisional game is big, so getting two points against the Blues would sure feel good.

The Colorado, Detroit rivalry may be a thing of the early 2000s, but this is sure to be an emotional affair. It is one of the best rivalries in all of sports with a unique twist now that Patrick Roy is behind the bench as opposed to on the ice for Colorado. These teams are in separate conferences now, so anytime they meet, we know they are going to do as much damage as they can on each other in a short amount of time.

This is the last home game before the Avalanche embark on a three-game California road trip. Winning in California has been tough this year -- the Kings, Ducks and Sharks have been no easy competitor. Getting two points at home against the Oilers is crucial for Colorado.

This is the season finale, and the Chicago Blackhawks are in town. We don’t know what the playoff landscape is going to look like on this day, but we do know it is important. Whether Colorado is in the playoff picture or not, ending your season with a win at home is the best way to end the regular season.
