5 Dallas Stars Trade Targets

The Dallas Stars sit just on the outside of the playoff picture as the 2015 NHL trade deadline looms. If they want to make it into the postseason this year they will have to target three areas. They need a defenseman willing to dish out hits and a goalie to help spell Kari Lehtonen. Finally they need someone to provide secondary scoring. Goal scoring will be tough to find through a trade, but there are some options for each area of weakness.

Jeff Petry2 — Petry is one of many Edmonton Oilers likely to be targeted by opposing teams in the coming weeks. He is set to be an unrestricted free agent in the summer and is hitting the prime of his career. Petry is a right-handed defenseman who can skate, so there should be plenty of suitors. He may not bring the toughness that Dallas needs, but he would help the team in many ways.

The Stars need to at least make the phone call to see if the Oilers are ready to deal.

The injury to Braydon Coburn may change the Philadelphia Flyers' trade deadline plans. Before the injury they were ready to shop a veteran defenseman, but Grossman could still be available. His time on the ice has been down in January. Of course Grossman came over from Dallas, so going to a familiar team may ease the transition.
