The New York Rangers entered the All-Star break as the hottest team in the NHL, winning 16 of their last 19 games. However, as it goes with every team, the Rangers will be looking to get better before the March 2 trade deadline. The Rangers lost a significant amount of depth over the offseason, and GM Glen Sather will surely be working the phones to find players to plug in. Here are five players the Rangers should target before the deadline.

5. Chris Stewart

Chris Stewart isn't having the best season, but he is a veteran player who has shown in the past he can score goals. The Rangers aren't the biggest team, and they are apparently in the market for a power forward to take some pressure off of Rick Nash and Chris Kreider. Buffalo is in full rebuild mode, so the Rangers would likely have to part with a pick to get Stewart.

James Sheppard is a player who isn't going to light the lamp often. But, he is a player that plays a solid two-way game, and he can win face-offs, an area the Rangers are severely lacking in right now. If the Sharks decide to rebuild, Sheppard will likely be headed out for a later round draft pick.

3. Mike Santorelli

See a common trend here? Mike Santorelli is another player who plays a solid two-way game. He is an unrestricted free agent at the end of the year, and with the Maple Leafs looking to blow it up, Santorelli is likely on his way out. The Rangers had interest in him this offseason, and he would be a nice addition to their third or fourth line.

2. Andrej Sekera

The Hurricanes are in a full rebuild, and Andrej Sekera is one of the biggest trade chips in the entire NHL right now. He is a top-four defenseman who drives possession and would be a great fit on every team in the league. The old saying is that a team can never have enough defensemen, and the Rangers would be foolish not to kick tires on Sekera, even if it will take a decent amount to get him.

1. Antoine Vermette

Antoine Vermette is easily the biggest name on the trade market right now. He is a terrific two-way center who can win face-offs and give a team a decent offensive boost. For the Rangers to get Vermette, they would likely have to give up a player like J.T. Miller or even Carl Hagelin, plus a pick or two. Vermette would solve the Rangers' problem at center, pushing Dominic Moore into the fourth slot, where he is far more comfortable.
