Going into any season, there are favorites to win and teams fans think will be more successful than others. But some teams end up being downright disappointing in their performance. Here are the 10 most disappointing teams at the midway point of the season.

The Ottawa Senators are second to last in the Atlantic Division, and that’s only above the Buffalo Sabres which frankly isn’t saying much. The team has some good talent but can’t seem to string a streak of wins together, currently with only 19 wins in 46 games this season.

The Minnesota Wild had a good run in the postseason last year and have all the makings of a stellar team. But with their goalie troubles and lack of power play scoring, their record has been a pretty big disappointment.

8. Colorado Avalanche

The Colorado Avalanche had a pretty spectacular season last year, especially backed by the impressive Semyon Varlamov and new head coach Patrick Roy. There were a lot of expectations for them to have a big year again, but so far the team hasn’t lived up to it.

7. Los Angeles Kings

The Los Angeles Kings aren’t horrible this season, but for the defending Stanley Cup champions to not even be in the playoffs right now speaks for itself. If the team is going to make the postseason, they’ve got to start winning and improve their road record.

6. Dallas Stars

For a team that was in the playoffs last season and has the likes of Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn, the Dallas Stars have been pretty disappointing this season. They’re currently next to last in the Central Division.

It seems like the Edmonton Oilers were supposed to have their “turnaround year” for the past couple seasons now, but it still hasn’t happened. The team is currently dead last in the Western Conference.

4. Columbus Blue Jackets

The Columbus Blue Jackets have picked up their pace of play in recent years, so it was expected that the team would only continue improving and make a run in the playoffs. So far, the team has yet to meet these expectations, though that could be in part due to all the injuries they’ve suffered so far.

3. Arizona Coyotes

Whether it’s because of the always-in-question owner and location of the team or Mike Smith’s skill drop-off, the Arizona Coyotes have been a big disappointment this season with only 16 wins in 47 games.

2. Toronto Maple Leafs

The Toronto Maple Leafs have to figure it out. The team constantly plays to extremes, going really hot and really cold but never finding that steady middle ground of winning consistently. Unfortunately, that shows in their position in the standings, and they’ve been quite a disappointment this season.

1. Buffalo Sabres

The Buffalo Sabres have been having a very bad year. Though they’ve made changes to their lineup, the team is still dead last in the league with only 14 wins in 48 games.
