The NHL’s 2015 Stadium Series showcase goes down Saturday night in Santa Clara’s Levi’s Stadium. This year’s installment pits two in-state rivals, the San Jose Sharks and Los Angeles Kings, in what’s sure to be a phenomenal night of hockey. With both teams tied in the Western Conference standings at 66 points apiece, the game also carries some major divisional and postseason implications.

Here are five important facts to know going into this weekend’s Stadium Series.

1. Historically The Sharks Win

When it comes to NHL rivalries, Original Six teams like the Rangers, Bruins, Red Wings, and Blackhawks are often mentioned as the most famous and most heated. However, in recent years there simply hasn’t been a better rivalry than these two Southern California teams. Historically the Sharks have won the head-to-head, with a record of 69 wins, 51 losses, 7 ties, and 7 OT losses. The Kings, on the other hand, are 58-57-7-12 versus San Jose.

2. The Kings Come Out on Top in the Post Season

Not only do they do battle in the same division, but the Sharks and Kings have also met in a postseason series in each of the past three years. The Kings have won all three of those, including an improbable comeback from an 0-3 hole in 2014.

3.  Is West Coast the New Norm?

This is the second straight Stadium Series to take place on the West Coast. Last year’s face-off also featured the Kings, but that one was against their fellow Interstate 5 opponent, the Anaheim Ducks. The Ducks took that game, 3-0.

The projected air temperature in Santa Clara on Saturday? Around 63. Clench your freezing cold jaws in anger, northeastern hockey buffs.

4. A Great Stadium Experience

Not only is the 2015 Stadium Series delivering on its promise of a great match-up, but it’s also delivering fans a great stadium, period. This is one of the first instances where Levi’s Stadium will be seen by a national audience. The venue is also slated to host Wrestlemania 31 next month, as well as 2016’s Super Bowl 50.

Located in the heart of Silicon Valley, Levi’s Stadium is the embodiment of our 21st century tech-inundated lifestyles. Billed as the first “Smart Stadium” in sports, the place comes equipped with 40x the WiFi capacity of a typical NFL Stadium, as well as a specific app that helps streamline every fan’s experience – from ticketing and parking, to in-seat food and drink ordering, to receiving video replays and statistical updates in real time.
