5 Free Agents the Canadiens Should Target In 2015 Offseason

The Montreal Canadiens were supposed to still be alive at this point, but they met the buzz-saw that was the Tampa Bay Lightning and just couldn't keep up with their scoring. The team saw they weren't as good as they thought they were. Now, they have to make moves this offseason to up their scoring. In today's NHL, you don't win when you rank 20th in scoring. Here are five free agents they should have on their wish-list.

Mike Fisher is one of the best forwards on the market. He may cost a little too much for the Canadiens, but he could play for his home country if he takes a slight discount. He has lived in Nashville for the past few years, which worked out for his famous wife. Now he can live in his home country and play for the home team.

The Canadiens' top priority needs to be bringing back Alex Galchenyuk. He is the future of this franchise. There are so many restricted free agents that could change the face of many teams around the league, but the Canadiens need to make sure they lock up their own before another team tries to poach Galchenyuk for themselves.

3. Tomas Kopecky

Tomas Kopecky is one of the best utility-knife players in the NHL. He can play an offensive style and score goals, and he can play a defensive style to keep goals out of the net. He can literally play on all four lines, and the Canadiens need that kind of role player on the team.

2. Paul Martin

The Canadiens are going to have to reconfigure the defense, as they are losing three main contributors on the blue line. Paul Martin is the exact player they need to solidify their defense and add an offensive punch.

1. Gustav Nyquist

Admittedly, this will cost a lot, but it will be entirely worth it if the Canadiens get one of the best young players in the league. The Habs would have to give a grandfather offer to Nyquist for Detroit to let him go, which would also come with the loss of multiple picks. But Nyquist would be worth it, as he could be the superstar to build the future of the team with Galchenyuk.

Alex Galchenyuk Scores Wild Goal On Buffalo Sabres

Alex Galchenyuk put the Montreal Canadiens ahead of the Buffalo Sabres with this epic goal midway through the second period on Wednesday night. I'm still trying to figure out how his momentum didn't render him incapable of completing the shot, and I bet the Sabres remain baffled as well.
