After missing the playoffs for the first time since 2007, the Boston Bruins will look to retool, reload and reshape their roster in hopes of putting this year behind them. Here are the five biggest rumors heading into the offseason.

New GM Don Sweeney will look to make a splash with his first pick at the helm, No. 14 overall. I expect the Bruins to target a skilled winger, much like they did with David Pastrnak last year. Russian winger Evgeni Svechnikov would be a nice fit in Boston and has been playing with Cape Breton of the Quebec Major Junior League meaning he has experience playing in North America.

With Sweeney at the helm, it’s likely Claude Julien will be back next season behind the bench, but it’s not 100 percent certain. Keeping Julien as a lame duck going into the offseason isn’t fair, so the team needs to either move on or reaffirm its commitment to Julien going into the 2015-16 season.

The bruising defenseman is a fan favorite and will be a free agent this summer, but he would love to remain in the black and gold. Unfortunately, the Bruins’ cap situation is a mess, so it’s unlikely “Darth Quaider” will be back next season.

“The Angry One-Eyed Swede” is among the best third-line centers in the league and will look to get paid as such this summer. The market for the Malmo native will almost certainly price him out of Boston, meaning the team will have to look elsewhere to solidify their middle six groups of forwards.

Hamilton has emerged as a rising star on the blue line, and with Zdeno Chara on the decline, the 21-year-old will be needed more than ever before. As a restricted free agent, Hamilton will look for a raise while other teams may try to take advantage of the team’s cap situation and give him an offer sheet. Out of all the Bruins’ needs this summer, keeping Hamilton in the fold is by far the most pressing.
