The Ottawa Senators made an improbable run to the NHL playoffs this season after being declared out of it come the New Year. They are still barely playoff contenders, and they need to make some moves with a small cap number. They also have to make decisions on five restricted free agents. These five inexpensive players would Senators better.

Get the obvious out of the way. The Ottawa Senators are going to do whatever they can to keep Mark Stone with the Senators. He is only a restricted free agent, so they still retain his rights. The Calder Trophy finalist will be the highest paid new contract in Ottawa.

Rich Peverley may be a name you remember, but don't remember why. He was the Dallas Stars player who collapsed on the bench and asked to return to the game. He hasn't played since, but he is trying to mount a comeback. He could be stopped by doctors, or he could stay with the team that helped him, but if he shops around the Senators should come calling.

Blake Comeau could be the best value on the free agent market. He showed the amount of skill he had last season. He could fly under the radar and come to the Sens for cheap.

The Detroit Red Wings have moved on from Erik Cole. That makes him easy pickings for the Senators. He wouldn't have to move terribly far. He needs to get cleared from the back injury that ended his season, but that is why the Senators will be able to afford him. A chance on the 36-year-old will bring some much needed veteran leadership to the forwards.

Andrej Sekera is not getting too much love on the market as of now. He has said earlier this season that he is looking for over $5 million per season. He won't get that. There are better defensemen on the market. He will be humbled, and accept a mutually-friendly deal with the Senators.
