There was zero drama surrounding the first pick of the 2015 NHL Draft on Friday night. As we knew would be the case ever since the Edmonton Oilers won the draft lottery over two months ago, Connor McDavid was selected with the No. 1 overall pick.

McDavid is without a doubt the best prospect to enter the NHL since Sidney Crosby in 2005. McDavid is a 6-foot-1-inch, 195-pound center who just finished up his season with the Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League. In 47 games, McDavid scored a remarkable 44 goals to go along with 76 assists.

“I am looking forward to completing the process and hearing my name called and being able to celebrate with my family and friends,” McDavid said. “It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience and I am just looking to soak up every minute that I can.”

McDavid recently turned 18 years old, but there’s no doubt he’s ready to play in the NHL immediately, and play at a high level. He’s an absolute craftsman with the puck and truly doesn’t have a weakness to his game. As McDavid bulks up over the next couple years, you can fully expect him to quickly become one of the best players in hockey.
