A few months ago, rumors began to swirl that there was a rift in the Chicago Blackhawks locker room caused by a cheating scandal involving Patrick Sharp and the wife of Duncan Keith, Kelly-Rae Keith (you can read the details here). While the Blackhawks obviously overcame the adversity to win the 2015 Stanley Cup Final, it appears they didn’t wait long to rid themselves of the tension.

According to Terez Owens, the Blackhawks traded Sharp to the Dallas Stars on Friday because of the cheating scandal.

While there is no real evidence to support this assertion, it certainly makes sense. The Blackhawks had a locker room cancer, waited until the end of the season to deal with it, and now rid themselves of the problem. Losing Sharp is certainly a huge blow for Chicago, but one they can survive if it means not having a divided team.

Who knows if we’ll ever know the truth. For now, all we have to go off of is whispers from estranged sources.
