Patrick Kane made his NHL debut with the Chicago Blackhawks as a young and immature 18-year-old with all the potential in the world. The superstar winger has matured since his early days in the league, but we were fortunate enough to hear an incredible story from his rookie season at the Blackhawks Fan Convention on Saturday.

Former Blackhawks head coach Denis Savard, and then Kane himself, told the hilarious story of how an 18 or 19-year-old Kane once allowed a goal during his rookie season because he was too busy checking out Taylor Swift. Make sure to check it out in the video below.

Here’s Second City Hockey with a quick summary of Savard’s story:

“Kane lost his guy on the backcheck, leading to a goal against. Savard yelled at him that he must have been distracted, looking at two pretty blonde girls who were sitting behind the bench. After the game, Kane was late getting to the team bus because he was talking to the same girls and got yelled at again. The next day, Kane went to Savard’s office to give his defense (saying), ‘You know who the two girls were? One of them was Taylor Swift.’ Savard still didn’t know who Taylor Swift was and had to ask his wife.”

No word on if Kane or Swift ever spoke after that, but what a power couple that could have been.
