The Philadelphia Flyers didn’t exactly make a plethora of moves this offseason. But one of the best moves the Flyers did make this offseason was re-signing forward Ryan White.

White isn’t necessarily the kind of player who is going to put up eye-popping statistics and make the All-Star game every season. He only put up 12 points in 34 games last season. But he’s exactly the kind of player that you want on your hockey team. He’s a tough, high-energy winger who has no problem with getting in someone’s face, which is exactly what the Flyers need in their lineup at this point in time.

With Zac Rinaldo no longer on the squad, White will take over the roll as the tough guy on the Flyers, which is a role he showed he’s very good at last season when he broke New York IslandersMatt Martin‘s nose.

White will not be trifled with.

But White’s more than just a good fighter. He plays like a man possessed. After missing most of the season with a pectoral injury, White stepped in and displayed his outstanding physical play on the forecheck. His solid two-way play was a pleasant surprise and he really made his presence felt on the fourth line.

Back in June, the Flyers gave White a one-year extension worth $800,000. That’s pretty good bang for your buck, quite literally. White seems to have made himself at home in Philadelphia and he will undoubtedly gather a big following from Flyers fans.
