The New Jersey Devils look completely different this season. They have a brand new coach in John Hynes and a brand new team for him to lead. The biggest difference is the fact that Lou Lamoriello is now in Toronto, instead of leading the Devils' front office like he has been since the '80s. With so many changes, now many big signings were made this offseason. There is still time to make this team better.

I have said this before, Steve Bernier is a necessary cog to the New Jersey Devils. He still wants to be in the uniform, which is weird since they have been so bad the last three years. He believes in this team. He can bring a scoring option from the third or fourth line. This should be a no-brainer.

Brad Boyes could be another guy to bring a scoring threat from the bottom six. He could even move up to the second line in case of injury. It is surprising he hasn't been picked up after the Panthers bought out the final year of his contract. He should come cheap as well.

Scottie Upshall is the true swiss army knife of the NHL. Do you need a 20-goal scorer? He can do it. A grinder that intimidates the opponent? Upshall is your guy. Do you need someone to set up the young goal scorer to build his confidence? You get the point.

Lee Stempniak is a perfect fit for a bottom six. The Devils need a guy who will show young guys like Stefan Matteau and Reid Boucher to be a better hockey player. This is their guy. Plus, they can sign a former Ranger and show he is better in a Devils uniform.

I mean, why not? It will be hard to convince Ehrhoff who says he is in Cup chasing mode, to commit to a rebuilding effort, but he would provide so much to this young Devils' blue line. His one year in the organization could teach Eric Gelinas, Jon Merrill and Damon Severson so much. He might not want to come, but the Devils have plenty of money to sway him.
