In all aspects of our lives, everyone has people who tend to rub us the wrong way and we try and work around their shortcomings. However, there are also times when people's behavior leads us to feel that they are jerks. Well, the same thing applies in professional sports and certainly within the NHL. The following 15 names are men whom I feel are definite candidates to be huge jerks.

15. James Neal, Nashville Predators

Neal is a prolific goal scorer for the Nashville Predators. However, he has a history of delivering questionable hits with one of hockey’s no-no’s in delivering knee-on-knee contact. Neal was one of the best at it. Throughout his tenure in the NHL he is known to put up at least 20 goals a season, but the physicality makes him a world class jerk.

14. Chris Pronger, Arizona Coyotes

Chris Pronger is a current day NHL player with the Arizona Coyotes, but has not played since November, 2011 as a member of the Philadelphia Flyers. He has not officially retired but will probably never play in the game again. He has been a jerk throughout his entire career for his dirty plays. He is a guy who you would love to have on your team, but a real jerk to players having to play against him.

11. Alex Ovechkin, Washington Capitals

Granted, he is one of the best players currently in the NHL but he is not immune from being a jerk. Whenever Ovechkin scores a goal today, the image remains of him placing his stick on the ice and pretending he had a ‘hot stick’. It was fresh and new and a light hearted suggestive statement by Ovechkin, but he sometimes goes too far.

10. Zac Rinaldo, Boston Bruins

Zac Rinaldo has played in 223 career NHL games for the Flyers and has 572 penalty minutes. That alone should give an indication as to how much of a jerk he is. He is almost regularly suspended for some unsportsmanlike behavior and one that gets under a lot of people’s skin. This upcoming season, he will show his obnoxious demeanor as a member of the Boston Bruins.

Joe Thornton is a talented player and had a successful career with the Boston Bruins and San Jose Sharks. He has made verbal attacks against the Sharks’ GM Doug Wilson, and while he is capable of racking up close to 100 points a season, showing respect to the boss is mandatory.

PK Subban is a fantastic NHL defenseman for the Montreal Canadiens. Nobody doubts his skills as a player in the league. However, as much as Subban’s praised for his scoring prowess, he is equally known as being a diver and the love is not there for him across the league, outside of Montreal.

Milan Lucic is a player that you love to have on your team, but absolutely drives you crazy playing against him. Two cases come to mind to prove that theory: when he informed Montreal Canadiens defenseman Alexei Emelin, that he was going to ‘kill him’ during a playoff series, and the other was against former Buffalo Sabres goaltender Ryan Miller where he charged his body toward Miller resulting in a concussion.

7. Alex Burrows, Vancouver Canucks

The Vancouver Canucks forward is one of the hated villains on the Pacific Division club. He is known for throwing dirty hits, diving, and of course who can forget his insatiable desire to bite fellow NHL players' fingers. Last time I checked, biting fingers is not part of being a good hockey player.

6. Brad Marchand, Boston Bruins

Brad Marchand is a goal scorer for the Boston Bruins, but he also emulates how not to play the game and is one of the best jerks in the league. He plays very similar to the way the Vancouver Canucks’ Alex Burrows plays but the only difference is that he shows that type of personality to those on the East Coast, where Burrows can show those on the West Coast how to play like a jerk.

Mike Richards was property of the Los Angeles Kings with a monster-sized contract. However, this summer the Kings terminated the deal in late June. NHL fans are aware of Mike Richards off-the-ice shenanigans and he is clearly a jerk.

During his days as a Winnipeg Jets forward, he was charged with assault in April, 2014 after an incident in Vancouver. In February 2015, he was a healthy scratch against the Vancouver Canucks as there were reports that he was feuding with his own teammates. He has since been dealt to the Buffalo Sabres and the talented left winger has magic hands with his stick, but away from the ice he is one of the worst jerks.

Yes, he's the Commissioner of the NHL but he is a jerk for his stubborn behavior in not losing faith in hockey thriving in the state of Arizona with the Coyotes. Fans, as well as the other 29 NHL cities want the Coyotes’ decision resolved with the team relocated. However, Bettman’s insistence that hockey continues in the desert makes Mr. Bettman a world class jerk.

Just a couple of weeks in the 2014-15 campaign last year, word spread that Voynov will be suspended indefinitely pending an investigation into domestic violence charges. He has been charged with injuring his spouse. Not here to judge, but under no circumstance should a woman be assaulted by any man. This type of behavior makes Voynov one of the biggest jerks currently in the NHL.

Patrick Kane is one of the best players to play with the Chicago Blackhawks. However, he has been involved in not one, but two, very serious criminal acts. In 2009, he was charged with assault and theft after allegedly punching a taxi cab driver for not having proper change for him in Buffalo, New York. This past August, also in Buffalo, he has been accused of raping a woman in his Hamburg, New York home. He is not a nice guy to be around.
