The Ottawa Senators came into the NHL in the 1992-93 season. They won a grand total of 10 games in their first season, finishing with 24 points total. It’s always been thought that the Toronto Maple Leafs and Montreal Canadiens are hockey’s greatest rivals. However, the one thing both team's fanbases agree on is that the Senators have had a string of goons. Here are the five worst offenders.

5. Right Winger Daniel Alfredsson

Alfredsson’s dirty plays usually involve games against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Sure, he was known to put pucks in the nets, but he had a style of play that made him dirty and thug-like as well as being an ultimate villain in the battle of Ontario games between these two teams.

4. Defenseman Chris Phillips

Phillips has 758 minutes worth of penalties and was one of the best at being the thorn in the sides of the Senators' opponents. He is a longtime serving Senator player in Ottawa since his debut in the 1997-98 campaign, and while he might do some great community work within the city, it doesn't change what type of player he is. He's definitely one of Ottawa's dirtiest.

3. Defenseman/Left Winger Dennis Vial

Vial’s a forgotten name as a Senator player, but he has the third-most penalty minutes in franchise history. Vial’s career in Ottawa was extremely brief starting in the 1993-94 season and finishing after the 1997-98 campaign. In this video, he delivers a hit to Toronto Maple Leafs' Dmitri Yushkevich, and Leafs enforcer Tie Domi let's Vial know that he wasn't going to allow that type of play to be administered to his teammate.

2. Defenseman Zdeno Chara

People may tend to forget that Chara played with the New York Islanders and Ottawa Senators. He is currently a member of the Boston Bruins, but played in Ottawa from the start of the 2001-02 season until the conclusion of the 2005-06 campaign. People may also tend to have doubts on any particular play where Chara was a dirty player. This is just a small clip to demonstrate how he continues to play with the Bruins organization. He amassed 554 penalty minutes during his tenure in Ottawa, and while he might have had a size advantage over his opponents at 6-foot-9, he is a classless player.

1. Right Winger Chris Neil

Neil was one of the best at racking up the Ottawa Senators penalty minutes and is the franchise leader with 2,294 minutes. His career started in 2001-02 and 233 points later is one of the most pugilistic players. He always has a tendency to leave his mark on the opposition, and this hit against former Ottawa Senators forward Dany Heatley is just a small sample of how Neil plays. Neil and Heatley were teammates during their time together in Canada's capital, but that didn't matter. If you are against Neil, he is going to level you into the middle of next week.
