The Dallas Stars were not good last season. Their defense could not stop easy shots on goal. Their goalie situation was best described as annoying -- this coming from a Stanley Cup contender. This season, they seem like they fixed some of their issues, but there are still major questions to be answered.

This may seem like a weird question to start off with, but it is necessary. This team's ceiling is the Stanley Cup, and they need to realize that. Last season, it seemed the second they went down, it snowballed into an automatic loss. This year, if they are confident in their play, they could be unstoppable, especially on offense.

I will say this, their defense looks much better than it did last season. The addition of Johnny Oduya means a lot, but he isn't a top-line defenseman. He needs to be here. John Klingberg is the key to whether this defense can turn it around. If he truly breaks out, they can find their way to the middle of the pack in goals against. That is all they need with such a high-powered offense.

The Stars had another offseason with big moves. It is early, but the acquisition of Patrick Sharp may be their biggest yet. His immediate chemistry with this team is uncanny. Can he bring it all season? That remains to be seen, but the way he has slid into this offense with no effort is a great sign.

The easy answer here is not yet, but he could become that this season. For much of last year, he was the best player in the NHL. The problem is he had a long stretch in January and February where he only scored four goals. An injury was likely the source of the lost production, but when you are talking the cream of the crop, that gets considered. If he puts together a full, dominating performance this season, he may jump into the No. 1 spot.

The goaltending position was just bad for the Dallas Stars last season. Now, with the most expensive goalie duo in the league, the Stars need Kari Lehtonen and Antti Niemi to be everything they need and more in net. They need to pick one, and he needs to be dominant. If they aren't, this team will ultimately struggle. It is a lot to ask two players who combined for 65 wins in 129 games. That isn't going to cut it this season.
