The National Hockey League focus has been on the city of Edmonton and the Oilers franchise, both in the United States and Canada. The thrilling top prospect from the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, Connor McDavid, is about to start a long and lengthy career as a professional hockey player within the province of Alberta. As promising as the Oilers' future looks, there are still some questions that need answers before the 2015-16 campaign starts.

5. What Does the Future Hold for Nail Yakupov?

The Edmonton Oilers are probably hoping to find this guy in the video. Three seasons in Edmonton and 88 points later, the management team are probably hoping for more production out of their first overall pick from the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. He has the skills and the talent, but how long will it take to see this projected talent produce nightly?

Ben Scrivens, Anders Nilsson and Talbot are all on one-year contracts and need to step up and cut down on the 283 goals the Oilers gave up last year. One goalie is bound to be cut shortly and it will likely be Scrivens. Talbot arrives after a 21-game win campaign backstopping the New York Rangers after Henrik Lundqvist went down to injury. Nilsson was acquired from the Chicago Blackhawks this summer.

This week, Eberle suffered a shoulder injury that will keep him out for just under two months. The team has talent within its forward core with Taylor Hall, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Nail Yakupov, Connor McDavid and Eberle. The injury is not what GM Peter Chiarelli was hoping for before the start of the new season. The team will need to fill the spot from within the organization, or needs to bolster the roster with a trade.

Hall of Famer Wayne Gretzky was one of the team's greatest and the face that put the Oilers franchise on the map. This summer's first overall selection, McDavid, goes to Edmonton. Questions remain. In Gretzky's first full NHL season in Edmonton, he had 137 points. Hockey fans are wondering if McDavid can live up to Gretzky's hype, and be the new face of the franchise.

The Edmonton Oilers are not winning the Stanley Cup this season or even next season, but GM Chiarelli has work to do. The Oilers have not gained success after years of collecting first-round picks. Chiarelli will probably be given a grace period for this season, but there has to be some fire in his belly to stop this franchise from being a laughingstock.
