There are plenty of dynamic duos in the NHL. From the Dallas Stars‘ Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin to the Pittsburgh Penguins and their all-world centers Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin. Well there’s another impressive duo and they have their team riding high and thinking about another Stanley Cup. That pair happens to be Jeff Carter and Tyler Toffoli of the Los Angeles Kings. Together they’ve torn up the league in the early going of the 2015-16 regular season and there’s no reason to think that they can’t continue this dominance as the season progresses.

There seems to be a certain unforced chemistry when Carter and Toffoli are on the ice together and it’s certainly showing up on the score sheet. Toffoli burst onto the scene last season when he accumulated 23 goals and 26 assists in 76 games played. If the Kings were to be serious Stanley Cup contenders this season, he was going to be looked on for more consistent offensive production.

Well, through 10 games played, Toffoli has already netted nine goals which puts him in a tie with Seguin for first place in the entire league. With Anze Kopitar struggling to find his footing early this season, Toffoli has made the All-Star Slovenian an afterthought.

Carter is no stranger to the score sheet. One of the more constants in life, as I’d like to say, is taxes will always be collected and Jeff Carter will always score at least 20 goals. When Carter’s career shifted from the Philadelphia Flyers to the Columbus Blue Jackets, many saw him fizzing out, like that old bottle of soda that’s been sitting in your fridge for the past month. However, when the Kings acquired the All-Star forward in 2011-12, they did it in hopes that he could jump-start their offense with former teammate Mike Richards. That plan worked to perfection as the Kings were able to raise their first Stanley Cup in franchise history and Carter was a big reason why. This season, Carter has found that same scoring niche working alongside Toffoli. With their possession numbers on the positive side of 50 percent, the two forwards have literally owned the puck and figuratively put the Kings on their back during this seven-game win streak.

In the early going of this young hockey season, there is a lot to like about these L.A. Kings. From elite goaltender Jonathan Quick to their remarkable defensive prowess with talent like Drew Doughty and Jake Muzzin. Adding in the likes of Carter and Toffoli to this team not only makes them playoff contenders, but true Stanley Cup contenders. If these two can remain healthy, they might just bring the Kings back to Cup glory and we all want to see Dustin Browns’ toothless smile as he raises that giant silver bowl.
