Toronto Maple Leafs Should Give Antoine Bibeau A Chance

The Toronto Maple Leafs have continued to struggle this season, and it’s apparent that the lack of success is going to last all year.

It seems that regardless of who’s in net, the Maple Leafs still find a way to lose. So there is no reason why the Maple Leafs shouldn’t give Antoine Bibeau the opportunity to play a few games before Jonathan Bernier recovers from being injured and returns to the lineup.

James Reimer has played well during Bernier’s absence, but the Maple Leafs are still losing games either due to poorly timed mistakes or just sloppy defensive play from the rest of the team.

What this has shown is that it ultimately doesn’t matter which goalie is playing because the rest of the Maple Leafs will make enough mistakes for the opposing team to win.

With the Toronto Marlies, Bibeau has won five of six games while having a 2.17 goals against average and a 0.908 save percentage. The Maple Leafs should give Bibeau the experience of playing a few games in the NHL before being sent back down to the AHL.

It’s important that Bibeau has that NHL experience because then he knows the skill level that a goalie needs to have in order to play at an elite level.

If Bibeau manages to prove that he’s able to play at the NHL level, then it might give management more freedom with trading Reimer or Bernier, as management will know Bibeau can be called up to the Maple Leafs and play at the level that is expected.
