The Carolina Hurricanes have been muddling in mediocrity since their Stanley Cup season what seems like many moons ago. They will almost certainly not win a championship this season, but these five men must be dealt for the franchise's future.

Keeping Staal on this team would be a mistake. Jordan and brother Eric must be dealt prior to the February 29 NHL trade deadline. Jordan has figured out how to win during his time with the Pittsburgh Penguins, but his winning ways will certainly not continue with this hockey club.

Prior to the start of this season, Versteeg was dealt to the Carolina Hurricanes from the Chicago Blackhawks. In his first 15 games with the hockey club, he has 10 points to his record. He is a valuable trade option for playoff bound teams to consider after his work in the Windy City winning two Stanley Cups.

Skinner is 23 years old and has the likelihood of a great future as a professional hockey player. However, after a successful 63 point rookie season, he has not produced anything close since then wearing the Hurricane colors. The last three seasons he has been on the negative side of the plus-minus statistic and could use an address change.

Goaltender Cam Ward has been rumored in trade discussions over the past few years. The team already has Eddie Lack in the backup role, and he could easily slide into the starting job after his solid tenure with the Vancouver Canucks.

Staal is a top forward for the franchise, leading the team to two Stanley Cup appearances while winning and losing a championship. He has been a great contributor on a nightly basis for the organization, but keeping him on this team prevents some of the youth and prospects from playing more significant minutes.
