This past September, NHL prognosticators had projected how the final standings would play out after the six month season. There were not many positive reviews on how the season would play out for the Devils organization and plans were being prepared for a rebuild within the franchise. The following five men have had great careers, but in order for the rebuild to commence these players should be dealt.

Elias has had a great career within the Devils organization as the team's leader in points, goals and assists. He has had a successful career but you can't change his age. Elias is 39 years old and needs to be dealt for the better of himself and the team. The team can get younger and Elias will have that opportunity to win another Stanley Cup with a contender.

The Devils have already been rumored in discussions of sending Zajac to the Toronto Maple Leafs. To opposing franchises, his salary is a lot to consider in any discussion prior to the February 29 NHL Trade Deadline. He can put the puck in the net and the Devils need Zajac's salary paid off.

Stempniak has had a successful 14-year career with seven franchises and is currently with his eighth organization. Stempniak has been scoring on a regular basis with 16 points within the team's 20 games. The 32-year-old has had a great career, but by the time the team builds a championship roster, Stempniak will no longer be a credible player.

The 25-year-old has been a great young player within their offense. Over 289 career regular season games, he has scored 169 points and is a valuable forward. If the Devils are serious about rebuilding, they could get a great young package for the budding star. He has 15 points in 20 games and has been one of the top scorers on the team.

Cammalleri has been a point-a-game producer, over the first 20 games of the season. He has had a pretty successful career with stops to the Los Angeles Kings, Calgary Flames and the Montreal Canadiens. He is in his second season in New Jersey and as long as he continues to score each game, he can fetch a lot in trades before the NHL Trade Deadline.
