The Philadelphia Flyers have been terrible. They are 8-10-5 to start the season, and it doesn’t look like it’s going to turn around any time soon. They have the worst offense in the NHL. Jakub Vorachek went from one of the best scorers in the league to having one goal at the end of November. As you can see, the Flyers already lost five games in overtime. It seems like everything is going wrong for them this season.

If the Flyers are going to have any chance of salvaging this season, they need to lean on Michal Neuvirth in net. Their offense is absolutely terrible outside of Claude Giroux. They need a player in net who can steal games when the offense does not show up. The Flyers score less than two goals per game, and Neuvirth has a chance to pitch a shutout on any given night.

Steve Mason is not a terrible option, but he isn’t right for the Flyers. He would be good on a team like the St. Louis Blues where all they need is a player who will not lose them the game. The Flyers are not that team.

This team scored one goal or less in 11 games already. They can’t score. That is probably the bigger problem they need to fix, but they can’t do that overnight. New head coach Dave Hakstol can make a move that would solidify the position in net.

Neuvirth is leading the league with a .939 save percentage. He could be the Devan Dubnyk of this season if he is given the chance.

The Flyers still have offensive talent. Voracek will not be this bad at lighting the lamp all season. Wayne Simmonds knows he has offensive talent, and he won’t be kept down for much longer. Giroux is still one of the best pure scorers in the league.

This isn’t a good team, but they can at least change their identity by starting the majority of their games with Neuvirth in net.
