The Ottawa Senators have been one of the better teams in the Eastern Conference. They currently find themselves in second place in the Atlantic Division behind the Canadiens. They don't need major changes, but could really use another stopper on the blue line. To get that player, they will need to lose one of their many young talents. Here are five players the team could afford to lose.

Jared Cowen is growing into a very good player on the second line of the defense, but the fact is the Senators are allowing too many goals this season. To get a legit, top-line defenseman to go with Erik Karlsson, a team is going to ask for one of their defensive assets. If Cowen leaves, it won't hurt them too bad.

Alex Chiasson is decent, but nothing to go home about. He is a third-line player with decent upside. There were a plethora of those players on the free agent wire this offseason. Chiasson also becomes a restricted free agent at the end of the season, so the Sens can cash out on him now.

The two-headed goalie monster doesn't ever work. It didn't work with Jaroslav Halak and Brian Elliot in St. Louis. It didn't work with Cory Schneider and Roberto Luongo in Vancouver. It didn't work for Schneider and Martin Brodeur in New Jersey. The Senators can immediately put the best goalie on the trade market, and get a major package in return.

Colin Greening is currently on the shelf, but he is close to being back. The fact that the Senators played so well without him shows they can afford to add him in a major trade. The 29 year old is a good bottom-six player who needs to prove he can stay healthy. He could do that on a different team.

Cody Ceci is a young, offensively minded defenseman that most teams will covet. A disclaimer is you can't lose him and Jared Cowen. One or the other can be lost in a trade that brings a legit defenseman. He is so young, and already decent, he should bring a major return if he is moved.
