Jonathan Bernier Continues To Disappoint Toronto Maple Leafs

At this point it’s just sad to watch. I’m rooting for Jonathan Bernier to get a win, but it’s just not happening and seems less and less likely with each loss.

In the ten games he’s played this season Bernier hasn’t won and the rest of his stats look just as bad. Bernier has a 3.45 goals against average and a .881 save percentage, which are terrible stats on any NHL team. The Toronto Maple Leafs sent Bernier down to the AHL to play with the Toronto Marlies for a conditioning stint for four games, which was meant to give him confidence in his play again and get him back to playing like an NHL goalie.

Bernier had three consecutive shutouts and then allowed five goals in his last game with the Marlies. Allowing five goals in the last game spoiled his time with the Marlies because he reverted back to how he had been playing all season. Needless to say, it’s hard to tell if Bernier’s time with the Marlies helped him at all when he allowed five goals starting for Toronto against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday.

If Bernier can get just one win it will be a huge weight off his back and it wouldn’t be surprising if he then began playing well. But the question is, how many games will it take for Bernier to get a win? And will he be able to turn his season around?

I honestly hope Bernier can get that elusive win and get back to how he played in the past. Bernier playing well is beneficial for everyone: fans, Toronto management, and Bernier himself.
