Generally, it takes a little while for a No. 1 overall pick to lift a franchise out of the decade-long doldrums the like of which the Edmonton Oilers have been stuck in.
But when that player is Connor McDavid, fortunes can turn around quite quickly, as the second-year phenom showed again on Thursday night in the Oilers’ 3-2 win over the Anaheim Ducks.
McDavid scored two points on the night, including this nifty shorthanded tally, as he widened his lead in the NHL points list and ran his total up to 91 on the season.
Over the last two and a half weeks, the Oilers have won eight of nine and secured their first trip to the Stanley Cup Playoffs in a decade.
This kid is the real deal.
