NHL Cites Scheduling Issues, Will Not Participate in 2018 Winter Olympics

The 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea won’t be the same now that the ice hockey portion of the festivities won’t include NHL players.

In a statement, the league said:

“In an effort to create clarity among conflicting reports and erroneous speculation, this will confirm our intention to proceed with finalizing our 2017-18 Regular Season schedule without any break to accommodate the Olympic Winter Games.”

Whether this position has something to do with the mandatory bye week each team enjoys now in the CBA is unknown, but it certainly seems like a good alternative theory.

The IOC (International Olympic Committee) says that their conditions were the same as in past Olympics, so it only seems logical to assume that the NHL is pulling the plug due to their own greedy ambitions.
