Pekka Rinne Turns Unfortunate Bounce into Spectacular Save for Predators

By Anthony Blake

NHL goaltenders put themselves in danger of humiliation every time they leave the crease to play a carom off the end boards.

Nashville Predators goalie Pekka Rinne nearly suffered this embarrassment against the Chicago Blackhawks on Monday night, but he turned lemons into lemonade on this absurd save.

This puck just took a crazy, unpredictable bounce off of the glass that sent it straight toward the net rather than around the boards, but incredibly Rinne had the reaction time and wherewithal to dive back and prevent the vulcanized rubber from crossing the goal line.

His acrobatics did some good for the Preds as well, as Nashville ultimately prevailed in overtime to take a 3-0 series lead and push Chicago to the brink of elimination.
