The Irish continue to get some bad news on the injury front. It was revealed on Tuesday that Braxston Cave will miss the remainder of the 2011 season because of a foot injury that will require surgery. Theo Riddick will also miss the Maryland game on Saturday because of a bad hamstring.

Cave tore a ligament in his left foot during the first half of Saturday’s game against Wake Forest. Mike Golic Jr. came in and played really well replacing one of his best friends on the team. Golic will be the starter at center for the remainder of the season with Andrew Nuss backing him up.

Riddick’s injury flew a bit under the radar. His bad hammy has disabled him from doing things that he does best. Even when Riddick was healthy, he wasn’t doing much. Riddick has had only 10 catches over his last three games and only caught one ball in last Saturday’s win.

His replacement at the slot receiver spot will be Robby Toma. The junior receiver has not received a lot of playing time this season, but he is more than capable of stepping in and playing well in Riddick’s absence. Expect John Goodman to get an increase in playing time with TJ Jones seeing time in the slot as well.
