Over the course his four seasons in South Bend, Michael Floyd broke pretty much every much major record there was for a Notre Dame receiver. Unfortunately, he might long be remembered by many fans for not being able to play late in the game during the Irish’s most critical drive of the 2011 season.

According to ESPN sideline reporter Holly Rowe, the now NFL bound Floyd got injured when he got tackled by a member of the FSU secondary during the late portion of the third quarter. Brian Kelly after the game said it was an “upper body injury.”

Floyd was able to return early on in the fourth quarter, but was a non-factor for the final 15 minutes. During the last Notre Dame drive of the season when the Irish were marching down the field, Floyd could be seen standing on the sidelines.

Whatever the sport, I hate questioning how bad a player is hurt, especially a player of Floyd’s caliber. He could go down as the greatest receiver in Notre Dame history, but many hours after the game has been over, I still don’t understand why he wasn’t on the field during that final drive of the year.

Even if he wasn’t 100 percent, Floyd could have been used a decoy against a depleted Seminoles secondary. The ‘Noles lost a couple of guys in the back four due to injury and Floyd out on the field could have opened up things not only for the young Irish receivers, but for Tyler Eifert, who was only target FSU was worried about.

Instead John Goodman was out in Floyd’s stead. Yeah, that won’t exactly impose a lot of worry in an opposing team.

Having Floyd not on the field gave Irish fans an early preview of what the receiving corps could look like next season. Granted, redshirt freshman Davaris Daniels and incoming freshman Deontay Greenberry weren’t playing, but the Notre Dame offense could really struggle to produce without Floyd early next season.

For the monster numbers that he put up in four seasons in South Bend, Floyd should have been out on the field with his teammates trying to get one last victory in his final game in Notre Dame blue and gold. It just wasn’t meant to be though and Irish fans are left with thoughts of what could have been heading into the long offseason.

The idiot who typed up this BS needs to be hang for writing such non-sense! Playing with a injury would not have helped ND win the game! The writer of this article needs their ass kicked! Not surprised that this so called sports site has the ability to actually write a non-hating analysis of football player or game! Then again…showing casing ass and tits of women at each bowl game tells me how legit this website is! Stick to showing naked women and other retard subjects, but leave game and player analysis to ESPN, SI and MSNBC CFT, because you idiots don’t have a clue!
