Just a few weeks after he said he wanted to remain at Notre Dame, Irish running backs coach Tim Hinton looks as though he will be going to Ohio State to be their tight end coach on Urban Meyer’s staff, according to some credible sources close to both programs.

The move for Hinton makes sense with his past in the state of Ohio. He spent 11 seasons coaching at Harding High School where he compiled a 78-40 record before moving on to be an assistant at Cincinnati. Hinton also has ties to Meyer as the two were both graduate assistants under Ohio State head coach Earle Bruce during the 1980′s. Hinton is also an alumni of the university.

Losing Hinton to the Buckeyes would be the second blow to the Irish head coaching staff since the regular season ended. Offensive coordinator Charley Molnar took the head coaching job at UMass a few weeks before Notre Dame’s matchup against Florida State in the Champs Sports Bowl.

From a recruiting standpoint, this isn’t expected to be a huge blow for Notre Dame as Taylor Decker was the only commit that Hinton recruited, according to IrishIllustrated.com. From a coaching standpoint though, this is a big blow as the veteran coach was one of the better assistants on Brian Kelly’s staff.

We will more than likely find out within the next few weeks who will be ND’s new offensive coordinator as well as who will take over the duties as the team’s running backs coach. Whoever takes over the job, they will have their work cut for them with Jonas Gray gone and not a lot of experience depth being starter Cierre Wood.
