Notre Dame Football: Top Five Storylines Heading into Next Season
(Matt Cashore, US Presswire)
The front seven of the Irish defense is expected to be one of the best in the entire country next season, but there are some real concerns regarding the secondary.
Harrison Smith, Robert Blanton and Gary Gray will all be gone due to them running out of eligibility. Jamoris Slaughter, who had a big bowl game against Florida State, and Zeke Motta, who has plenty of experience playing secondary over the last three seasons, will be back, but the lack of experience at the two corner spots are a bit concerning.
Bennett Jackson and Lo Wood will get the first dibs to start. Both played at stretches this season, but not enough to consider them both experience players. Josh Atkinson and Jalen Brown will be behind them as well with incoming Ronald Darby and Tee Shepard expected to be in the mix as well. The Irish are expected to add at least on more commit to their current class as well.
Like receiver, this will be a very competitive spot in camp with so much uncertainty.
