Scott Sizemore Filling the Empty Hole at Third
When Kevin Kouzmanoff was sent down to the minors this year and the A’s traded for Scott Sizemore to take his place I was not convinced the A’s had made the right move. Before coming to Oakland Kouzmanoff had been a good player and I have been waiting for him to get going again. So I felt the addition of Scott Sizemore might be hindering Kouzmanoff’s comeback. Especially when you think about that fact that in his two seasons at the major league level Sizemore had only hit a total of 3 home runs and had only driven in 18 runs in 206 at bats. So the swap of those two players at third seemed to be a bit of question mark move in my eyes. I mean Kouzmanoff had already produced better than those numbers so why bring in someone doing worse?
Since my skepticism early on I have become a believer. Scott Sizemore has more than filled Kevin Kouzmanoff’s tiny shoes. He has turned his young career around with the A’s. He already has more home runs in his 107 at bats with the A’s (4) than he did in those 206 at bats with the Tigers (3). Plus Sizemore is currently batting .271 for the A’s, which is not only personal best for Sizemore but one of the leaders on the A’s. While his glove has been less than stellar at times he seems to come up with the big play when it’s needed.
As of right now I don’t see anyone in the A’s system that is good enough to take over at third. Unless a big trade happens and the A’s get a great third base prospect I am more than happy to see Scott stay with the A’s and see how much more he can grow.

Great article! I would agree Kouzmanoff is a better all around player, not to mention he was a golden glove contender before coming to Oakland. I see Kouzmanoff’s FIRE HOT BAT in Sacramento!
Call Kouzmanoff back up! Oakland needs his bat. Sizemore needs more time to develop is bat.
I don’t think Sizemore is filling the hole at 3rd. He’s a BUM!!!!!
He leads the team in STRIKEOUTS you idiot!
Before you name call you may want to check stats other that strike outs.
Do you realize in less at bats Sizemore has already lived up to what Kouz did? Not to mention less errors.
