Please Call up Josh Donaldson and Michael Taylor
Michael Taylor and Josh Donaldson have been stuck in the minors too long. At one time they were both considered to be top prospects for the A’s. Recently they have dropped in their offensive output but part of me wonders if that has more to do with their mental state. Both of these players are around the age of 26 and seem to stuck in triple A without being given a shot at the big league club. I think that would weigh on the mind of any minor leaguer. These players are both at the age where they should be in their second or third season not closing out another season, rotting away, in triple A.
Michael Taylor has lost quite a bit in his power numbers since joining the Oakland A’s system. He was in double digits every year on his way up through the minors prior to being acquired by the A’s. How much of this power loss was the A’s style of hitting they force on their organization or him struggling with better pitching in triple A ball? That I don’t know and it does concern me but until this year Taylor has pretty much always hit for average. There is no one out there that can tell me the A’s couldn’t use a better hitting outfielder who has had sings of power in his bat. He should be given a shot to show what he has over a catastrophic failure like David DeJesus. I feel like Taylor is at the point where he only mentally going to become more frustrated and continue to decline with the River Cats. This kid needs a chance to try and succeed at the major league level.
Josh Donaldson is a little bit of a different story. Even though his numbers aren’t eye popping he has already shown that he belongs with the big league club. Can we all just admit that Landon Powell is not the answer at back up catcher? I realize that Donaldosn got a taste of the big league last year and didn’t do much but it was only a taste and his first taste at that. My issue is that Landon Powell is stinking it up and Josh Donaldson is having himself a decent season. To be totally honest Donaldson looks to be a better hitter than Kurt Suzuki but at a much lower price. Why not see what this kid can do and see if he has any future as an A’s catcher. I am sick of Landon Powell and his .189 batting average.
These two prospects are getting too old and have shown too much ability to rot away on the Sacramento River Cats. It’s unfair to them and us Oakland A’s fans not to see what these one time top prospects can do for this failing organization. Not to mention if they aren’t the future of this team then they are just blocking other players from moving up the minor league ladder to help this team. Take whatever reason you want but lets see what these kids can do.
