It appears that former Florida Gator and current third-string Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow is the people’s champion in Denver, for Broncos starter, Kyle Orton—thanks in part to a sloppy performance—may find himself under a mile high microscope in 2011.

During the Bronco’s 23-20 loss to bitter AFC West rival Oakland, Broncos fans were chanting “We Want Tebow” due to a combination of Denver’s bad offensive line and Oakland’s consistent defensive pressure.

Orton would finish the night by completing 24-of-46 pass for 304 yards and one touchdown.

With the first game of the 2011-12 season now in the books, it is just one game, but for Broncos fans to be chanting for a third-string quarterback is classless.

What has Tebow done or shown to deserve such praise?

Other than being in the top ten in merchandise sales, Tebow is—perhaps—the most over-hyped and over-marketed quarterback in NFL history.

Did I mention that this is the Denver Broncos third-string quarterback, who currently has a career 50% completion percentage?

That Tim Tebow?

With due respect to Broncos fans and Tim Tebow, but this is the NFL—not the SEC—and San Diego, Kansas City and Oakland are not to be confused with the likes of Vanderbilt, LSU and Alabama.

Orton is the best chance for the Broncos to win in 2011, he has a 32-30 record in the NFL and has thrown for 7,455 yards and 41 touchdowns in his two years as a starter in Denver .

If and when Tebow improves his throwing mechanics, completion percentage and learn to become a true pocket passer in the NFL, then the chants for him will be answered.

Until then, calls for Orton’s ouster are nothing more than just classless noise.

    Well, I disagree. Tebow’s threat to run somehow neutralizes the defense and yes receivers get open. No, he is not a pocket passer; but let him loose and our Bronco’s will win or at least have a chance. Forget that he might get hurt; he will wear defenses down if given the chance; 4th quarter strength is his MO. He wears them down (defenses) mentally because of his threat to run; pressure is on linebackers. I wish the coaches will let him play.

      @catdawg,

      Thanks for the feedback! And while I agree that Tebow’s threat to run may keep defenses honest, the NFL is now a passing league. there is a reason why Elway has him 3rd or 4th on the depth chart and that is becuase of his throwing mechanics and accuracy. I will say this, Orton didn’t help himself towards the end of the game, but he is the Bronco’s best chance of winning right now.

        I do understand Roberts point on this. Tebow hasn’t proved himself yet but i know in some way he has to agree Tebow is one of the hardest workers in the NFL. He is not like Jamarcus Russel who made a huge paycheck by throwing INT’s. He works harder and harder, his teammates support him and praise him. He soaks in all of Ortons wisdom to someday surpass him. Tebow actually changed his throwing style completely so he could get the ball out faster than before. I found myself chanting Tebow too last night, i know it wouldn’t of help or he probably wouldn’t be ready for it but I don’t know maybe we are looking for a miracle. But thats how alot of QB’s come in and become stars Tom Brady is a huge example, he came in for Bledsoe and look where he is now. Tebow a winner and always will be he won’t stop improving until he’s is picture perfect. Remember too since the lockout happened he didn’t get to talk to his new staff or work with them which is tough on any player. I think if Orton doesn’t make us have somewhat a good record this season we may need a new look and it will either be Tebow or Quinn. And by the way Tebow and Quinn are both 2nd string however that works… confusing.

        Let’s look that the situation, Orton is one dimensional and sure he can throw and defenses will let him throw but it is until Orton gets to the red zone things change. This is where you separate an average QB from a great QB and Orton is not that. Getting out of the pocket is not his strength but 3 yard passes are and he can have that. Now with the 32 and 30 career win and loses, how did Orton get those numbers…humm oh he played. It’s time to let Tebow lose. Orton is a “What If” player and opposing teams know what Orton brings to the table and that’s throwing ….so last Monday night “Orton Hears a Boo” well it time to step aside and let youth carry the team.

        What is a TRUE Quarterback???? the old Dan Marino or the Michael Vick??? How many more years will go by until this pocket passer state of mind will go away?? Look at the the NFL this year alone..shoot, look at Tom Brady last night.. New England took a page out of OU’s playbook changing plays at the line..Audible after Audible.. you didn’t see that type of Offense 2 years ago.. WildCat?? not that I completely agree, but it shows the NFL and coaches, most of which are starting to come up from the NCAA with their spread offenses to fit these new hybrid quarterbacks… Tebow and his way, LIKE IT OR NOT, is the future of the NFL….I agree with Booyah, give him back Miami or a west coast offense and they will use Tebow and he waves at Denver on his way to the Super Bowl….

    So it’s classless the bronocs fans are tired of losing? How many completions did orton have on 3rd down? FG’s for TD’s, and the all important question, what is his record in Denver again? When was the last time orton won playoff game? When is the last time Orton made it to the the playoffs? The answer is when he was a rookie and he was benched as soon as he got there. Go while about another team and stop wasting our time with your tireless nonsese.

      Keeping it real, We can agree to disagree, but your response comes across as amateur jibberish, While Orton didn’t have many completion’s on 3rd down, you should be placing blame on the Bronco’s sorry offensive line and the raiders were just constantly creating pressure, that is Fact #1.

      Fact #2 is that Orton’s record in Denver is only 11-18, BUT he is 32-31 as a starter in the NFL, what is Tebow’s again?, Orton when given protection and time is one of the best QB’s in the league, Tebow has yet to prove himself, or do you need to go see John Elway for a more informed opinion?

      Glad you liked my piece!

        Robert, you keep throwing out these rediculous stats… OK, so Orton is 32-31… some where down the line to get to that miserable 32-31, he was under .500…and with a few more losses your looking at 32-32, 32-33, 32-34.. then where is your leg to stand on.. Tebow has started Three Games.. THREE (how do you judge a ROOKIE quarterback on three games, oh wiat one in which he came back and WON)…. give him 60 games and GUARANTEED he will have a better record than Ortan and shoot more than 50% of the Quarterbacks in the League.. you are truely just Anti-Tebow, because you dont like SUCCESS!!!

          @GATOR,

          How is a stat “riduiclous”? that has to be the worst contradiction I have ever heard, Stats are in sports for a reason, becuase they never lie, while Orton has a barely over .500 record as a starter, he is still a quality starter in the NFL. Tebow has only played THREE games and as you stated he came back and WON against the 32nd ranked pass defense in Houston(oh wow, another stat!) Piece of advice, if you ever want to debate it would be a GOOD thing for you to have and learn about these lovely little things called “stats” so that they can at least give you some “legs” of your own to stand on in future debates. #BIGFAIL

        Scramblers aren’t known for winning championships. In the Super Bowl era, only one quarterback has won the title and led QBs in rushing in the same season – the 49ers’ Steve Young in 1994. (And Young gained a modest 293 yards that year, well below his career high of 537.)

        Other scramblers. Donovan McNabb, Michael Vick, Steve McNair. You have to take chances to win. Maybe NOT being like all the others is just enough to throw a opposing defence off center and win some games.

Tebow is a winner and the attitude and work ethic will recinate through the team if he plays… Anyone who can do what he did in College is more than qualified to do the same in the NFL… Its a new NFL.. Hybrid Quarterbacks who can run and throw.. that old school pocket passer is gone.. look at Vick..Its a new generation of players and Tebow is at the top of that class…haters and the “experts” like to hate on Tebow because they are stuck in their old ways and cannot see outside the box.. if you give Tebow a chance (give him the offense, completely, not this oh get out their and fail so we can show the fans they were wrong attitude) he WILL prevail and make Denver what they were when Elway was there…. Robert, Now; Hybrid in what ways? I see Hybrid as a Dual threat.. which he obviously is.. as for throwing accuracy that comes from experience (in game experience) learning from his mistakes…practice squad doesn’t cut it.. I believe he proved himself enough to be ahead of brady Quinn, who has more than his fair share to show his stuff.. Tebow is one of those players who will learn from his mistakes, within a game, and change them by the second half and capitalize… just look at his 08′ season, one loss motivated him to dominate college football and take the BCS, IMAGINE if you give him the offense totally and completely give him, shoot 6 games.. and see what his stats are then…the just MAYBE will I let someone say I told you so.. but I am confident I wont have to.. I have followed Tebow since he was recruited by Meyer… He has what it takes to be a franchise quarterback…he needs a team that will put trust and time into him……….Thank You!

          @GATOR,

          I actually agree with you on your observation of a hybrid being a dual-threat, as for accuracy, that comes from making smart and quick decisions, I don’t know exactly what you mean by practice squad? Did you watch any pre-season games, just curious?

          This is 2011, not 2008 and this is the NFL not NCAA, Florida ran a spread-shotgun offense in which Tebow took a vast majority of his snaps in the gun, and has shown that he is still not comfortable in a NFL pro offense(just yet), while I applaud you for your passion in your boy-toy, I’d hold off on the enthusiasm.

    I say let Tebow play, Obviously the Broncos wanted him for a reason, otherwise they wouldnt have taken him. What good is he sitting on the bench?None, Let the man play and win. How is he supposed to learn and bring his team up out of this rut (which is what he does) if he is sitting on the sidelines the whole time? Let the man work his magic. I’m sure there will be some learning curve, but he will take it seriously and put it on himself to get the job done…. and if you hadn’t noticed, he gets it done.

      ONCE,

      I give you credit for bringing up a great point on why the Broncos selected him when they already had Orton and traded for Quinn(thanks for Hillis BTW!), you have to as McDaniels on that one, but the bottom line is that Elways/Xanders andFox owe him no loyalty at all becuase they didn’t pick him. Tebow still has some room to grow, and until he can show the Denver front office, he will most likely remain on the bench.

    The only way to see is to let him play we had a chance to win all three of the games Tebow was in he won 33.3% of his games and 25% of our overall games. Orton is NOT a comeback player when the D plays well he doesn’t it’s not all his fault but look at that disaster fumble last night. The bad snap when he couldn’t fall on the ball in the Jets game last year. 3 and out over and over again, he can’t come threw when needed most. I have never been so embaressed to be a Broncos fan until last year starting with the 59-14 loss, and when we did play Tebow he sat there with a sour look on his face for the rest of the season offering no help or input to the rookie. McD left us with a nice pile and a 10 million dollar bill to pay in Orton. Though I don’t believe we should be canting play Tebow if we still have a chance to win the game. Though i don’t know how anyone can say Orton gives us the best chance to win after last year and Tebow atleast kept us in every game he had started thats all I ask is atleast give us a chance to win. Something to rally for and not be utterly embaressed about. Should have never gotten rid of Mike S.

    I wouldn’t necessarily call it “classless.” I just think the fans are frustrated. Let’s get real. Neither Kyle Orton nor Brady Quinn will lead Denver on a legitimate playoff run. That’s just a fact. With Tebow, however, there’s a chance. The guy is talented and a proven winner. His mechanics are not at an ideal level for a starting quarterback in the NFL, but not everybody can be Peyton Manning or Aaron Rodgers. I’m not guaranteeing that Tebow will be a successful NFL quarterback, but what’s wrong with giving him a chance? He only got three starts in garbage time last season, which is a completely ridiculous standard for the organization to judge his future on the professional level. I think the Broncos are insulting their fans by sticking to Orton so strongly, especially when this team is clearly going nowhere–and fast. Just my two cents, Robert. Kudos for your well-written and thought-out opinion.

      You bring up some great points and I think I could have used a better word thank classless, just seeing them openly chant like that made me think of the “Baday, Brady” chants I heard for Quinn here in Cleveland, and while Orton is a decent QB, right now he is the best chance the broncos have of winning, not a slight against Tebow in anyway, just for now until they are either ready to go in a new direction with BQ or Tebow. Thanks for the love.

    I would like to chime in as a Raider fan. I am stating that, so you know I have no emotional responce, or even a want for the Broncos to win! haha

    Playing Kyle Orton is accepting a goal of mediocracy. 32-31 is not a solid NFL quarterback, and if this is your view, I suppose it is good you are not a GM or coach. And winning a super bowl is great, but it is also nice to just make the playoffs and such. Believe me, Jasuckus Russel?? Ha.

    The reason to play Tim Tebow is two fold. One, you get to see what the kid is made of, and if he does indeed show the talent of an NFL starter. No, not just three games, but for an entire season. Even if it is a loosing season, you get to see his poise, and learn how the team feels about him as a man, and a player/leader. Second, you give the fans a reason to cheer. Yes, even if they have a loosing season, but Tebow shows promise, the fans will look forward to next year, and the potential to have what every winning team needs, a franchise qb.

    Also, if he has a terrible season, you learn about him, and possibly get a high draft pick. Going 8-8 is really the worst thing you can do. Dont make the playoffs, and get a bad draft spot.

    I think your view of “stats” as an all-proving reason is weak. I am glad as a writer you know these stats, as it is a part of your job. But in sports, there are many other factors that go into winning.

      @Raider Fan,

      Allow me to qoute Mark Twain, “there are lies, there are damned lies, and then there are stats’ Stats are there for a reason, it is used as a barometer to judge/decide the direction of a billion dollar league and franchise and used to determine which players get big-time contracts. I fail to see your point on why my position is “weak” when it is right there in stone. If you can give me a valid reason why tebow should start in Denver without reciting the whole “he was a two-time champion and Heisman winner who works hard and inspires his team” then i will gladly listen. Tebow is NO Russell because 1) he was not the overall #1 pick and #2 he has more talent.

      Orton is the best chance for Denver to win in 2011. Thanks for reading. And stats never lie.

    Alright I’m a huge Tebow fan and I believe he should be the starter because he has more potential Orton as a rookie started 15 games and had the worst passer rating in the NFL and only 9 total TDs Tebow started 3 and almost had that many irons record looks decent because that bears team was amazing on defense all he did was hurt his team… Orton may be equal definatley not better but Orton just doesn’t have the “it” factor I would have no faith in him winning a game for me on the final drive and another thing is I’m not a broncos fan but they see hope in Tebow that’s why they yell his name they know that in Orton they will never have a great QB just average…

    @ALL

    Good Rants on All sides (thanks for the article Robert).. the real Answer here is, Only Time Will Tell… I was never one for I told you so’s, but I hope sometime, either in ’11 or 12′ I will have the opportunity to say it.. It’s funny, I am a born and bred Dolphin/Gator fan so I have had the best and worst of both worlds (evident after brady tore us up last night) But Tebow, he is my generations underdog in the NFL…from “top dog” to “underdog” in a year.. he has a lot of pressure, but pressure I know he can overcome.. its hard to find players these days with the attitude and will to win that Tebow has these days, i call it the brett Favre syndrom..the love of the game…tebow needs to get his break (a real break) so he can either succeed or fail for himself and no one else…. Thanks again All!!! Until the next game, when the chanting will prolly continue again…

    Tebow is getting no credit in this Rob(bing Tebow) write. Nice slanted view of the facts because you only make mention of what Orton has done in Denver. I like Orton and he’s above average but Tebow can do so much more. If the argument is Orton is better than Tebow than let’s just do a fair comparison of what you can. Comparing Orton’s first two seasons as a Bronco which would be his fourth and fifth in the NFL to Tebow’s first two is not fair at all. Tebow started only three games in 2010 and starting this season unjustly third on the depth chart (on the bench). What you can compare is what they did in college and their first three starts in the NFL. If you want to tell me Orton had a better college career than Tebow I will just laugh. Well lets just look at there first three NFL starts. Orton 1win-2Losses 56.9 Rating/46 of 88 (54.6%) for 440 yards/1TD/6INT/1-Rush for 0 yards/2 fumbles 1 lost/ 5-sacks. Tebow 1win-2Losses 82.7 Rating/46 of 88 (50%) for 651 yards/5TD/3INT/31-Rush for 199 yards 3TDs/1 fumbles 0 lost/ 6-sacks. I think that if you look at those stats the pick would be obvious along with the mobility of Tebow. Tebow just needs more starts and he could be killing it but instead he sits on the bench wasting talent and time. The Broncos should have taken whatever they could have gotten for Orton why they could.

    Orton just doesn’t seem to have that competitive drive thats needed to win. Speaking of being accurate Orton threw alot of bad balls last night and threw the years. Tebows stat are not great yet, but then again look at Elways his rookie season. He played 11 games, 47.5% comlpetion, 7 td, 14 ints. Not great, but did Elway turn out Ok? If we are going to loss we might as well give Tebow a shot can’t look much worse than last night. Orton has had his time to prove himself and so has Quinn in Clevland, Tebows turn.

      I agree with your statement, that if the broncos are going to lose, you might as well see what you truly have with Tebow. The Broncos can’t get any worse by playing Tebow over Orton. This season is a transition season, no one in their right mind would ever consider the Broncos to be a threat for the division title and beyond even with Orton taking the snaps. I have suffered through two+ seasons of watching Orton’s mediocrity in passing the ball leaving something else to be desired. I don’t know if Tebow’s the answer, but for a team that is no where near contending status, you might as well find out what type of player you have. Ultimately if Tebow fails, the Broncos will have a high draft pick that they can use on a college quarterback who they feel is the answer. Reasonably, if Tebow succeeds and shows improvement through the experience gained, the Broncos can use their draft picks on other areas of need like defensive tackle, running back and offensive lineman.

    Robert give it a rest man your logic isn’t going to win anybody over Tebow is the man he proved people like you wrong in high school, he embarassed people like you in college and he set records in his first NFL game as a starter with a broken coaching staff and an offense not designed for him or his strengths, Tebow is a winner, period. You can criticize his mechanics and accuracy in practice all day I would rather concentrate on his ability to make plays when it counts, to inspire his teammates to work harder and play better and ultimately to win games. I understand from the Broncos stand point that it is a gamble starting a duel threat quarterback like Tebow with his awkward throwing motion and tendencies to run through a defender rather than away from a defender, to drop his shoulder rather than slide its a gamble so just keep playing it safe with your prototypical pocket passer Kyle Orton and enjoy a losing season while guys like Michael Vick and Cam Newton continue to prove you and your ideology WRONG WRONG WRONG

    The point that a lot of people are missing, is that it is not an issue of whether Kyle Orton or Tim Tebow (or even Brady Quinn) would win more games this year. The Broncos are not going to be a very good team regardless of who the quarterback is, there were just too many holes to fill in one year. The issue is finding out who is going to be the quarterback for the future. Kyle Orton is a known quantity. He could be adequate on a team with a dominate running game and/or defense but the Broncos are not that team right now. It is more important that the Broncos find out if Tebow can be their quarterback of the future or whether they need to make plans to find another one next year. Sticking with Orton is just wasting time to no advantage.

    A real example of classless is this comment- “Other than being in the top ten in merchandise sales, Tebow is—perhaps—the most over-hyped and over-marketed quarterback in NFL history.”
    As far as the NFL is concerned Tebow is a work in progress. “Over-hated and under-appreciated” might be more appropriate. As for your column this time- 3 words for you- pot, kettle, black.

    How is Tebow a winner exactly? Eric Crouch was a “winner” and he wasn’t good enough to play in the NFL. The whole “he works hard” argument is pretty ridiculous to start a quarterback. Every quarterback works hard. Phil Rivers sat multiple seasons behind Brees. Carson Palmer sat behind Jon Kitna. Tebow is not good enough yet…plain and simple. He’ll get his starts in week 9 week 10 when the season is over to see what he has…but until the team is out of contention…you go with the better quarterback…period.

    People need to get off the” Tim Tebow works hard train” it’s incredibly old.

    I just hope that Denver and John most of all are not stubborn and don’t give Tebow a resonable shot to run the offense atleast the rest of his contract at the end of this season. We are paying 10 mill. for Orton thanks Josh M. for the high priced bill and trading Hillis for Quinn greatly appreciated. There will be riots in Denver and alot of wasted money on jerseys if they trade Tebow with out a few seasons to prove his talent. The fans atleast deserve that much. Also though I dont belive classless is the correct word for these die hard frustrated fans. Classess could have been used for the firing of Mike Shanahan and letting Josh McD run our team into the ground if you want to act like Bill B. first you need to win like him. Piss poor managment leads to angry fans in Denver.

    Hi Rob, nice piece except I have a slightly different take on the chants for Tebow. I don’t think it was classless, I think it was a sign of restlessness. What I believe is that the fans probably thought the game was not in reach, so put Tim in to get game experience. It’s also a misnomer to say the chants for Tebow were ‘praise’, it wasn’t praise, but it was a request to see something different, and probably entertaining.

    I have a couple of stats also, since we’re on the topic; in 2011 preseason, Tebow had a higher QB rating (108.3) than Orton (104.1) or Quinn (69.1). He was also 20/31 passing, or 64.5% – similarly, Orton was 28/42, or 66.7%. I’ll take 64.5% (or above) passing anyday, it is clearly a sign of accurracy, not inaccurracy. These stats are available on nfl.com.

    With regard to throwing mechanics, it would be a mistake to try and change that – the only improvement needed for Tebow is drop-back passing, which actually comes in game time experience.

    Some people don’t remember, but Cam Newton played as Tim Tebow’s backup at Florida. He left UF amid accusations of laptop theft (no trial or arrest) and went to JUCO and won a national title, then went to Auburn and won a national title. Newton was ‘lucky’ enough to get picked by a team that was willing to put him in, well that and he was better than the incumbents. Cam and Tim have a similar style of play and we saw the result of Newton’s first game.

    I know Orton is well supported by ‘the deciders’ and I’m okay with that. I also feel that Tim Tebow is a good quarterback that will only get better given game-time experience. It seems his best chance to get that will be either the end of this season, or next, or with another team altogether.

      Dj,

      As much as your attempt of defending Tebow, you do realize that you are using PRE-SEASON stats vs real live NFL stats right? I’m fully aware of the nfl.com stats, but the reason why Tebow has the better QB rating and passing completion is that #1 it was pre-season and #2 Denver really wanted to see what they had in Tebow, and based on his current spot on the depth cart and bench, they were not impressed.

    I have never posted a comment on any sports website, but, I just couldn’t hold back any longer. Maybe this has been commented before, I don’t know. As much as I idolize John Elway; do you think he may feel threatened as his status as the Best Bronco Quarterback ever??? I think Tebow has it and works exceptionally hard to quote from Champ Bailey and dozens of others. He needs hard Playing time. He didn’t receive 2 Heisman Trophy’s from sitting on the bench!!!

    Are you serious? Classless? Perhaps when you have been a die hard, bleeding- orange Bronco fan for 40+ years and have spent thousands of dollars on Broncos merchandise and tickets you may then have a right to call it classless. It was an expression of frustration over the ridiculousness of the past two seasons. I have always thought Pat Bowlen to be a classy guy, Proclaimed Elway to be one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time, but I have some serious question as to the thought process behind many of the decisions made regarding this team in the last two years. From Shannahan, to Cutler, To Fox and Orton? Really? I just don’t get it. The fans are disappointed. Orton looks fantastic on paper, but the bottom line is- he can’t make it happen. Ok- so he doesn’t have anyone to help make it happen, but the little fumble Monday- uh, ok. He will never be ( in the fans hearts) Denver’s franchise QB. And the Tebow slamming is beyond ridiculous. How can anyone say with any real knowledge he cant cut it- He hasn’t even played hardly. So the “Tebow is not NFL caliber” is unfounded and just plain idiotic. Get him out there for a season or two and then the comment can be made with some accuracy, something to base that off of. For now- it’s completely unfounded. Doesn’t anyone remember the first few years of Elways career? I do! Not so pretty, but he ended up one of the best of all time! I love my Broncos- but it’s time to step up the game, stop the politically correctness.This is not dance class- this is football. How about we get some receivers and running backs. Montana’s article about Tebow says it all. And he was the greatest QB of all time. Put him in the game- even if it’s not at QB- at least he can run the ball!

    Classless seems a little stern for a fanbase that has endured two years of similar performances to what was on display Monday night. The coaching staff could have cut itself some slack with the fans by running packages for Tebow in the red zone. Watching Orton fumble, bumble, run into sacks and skip 8 yrd outs to receivers in the red zone is all too familiar territory. Even McDoufus realized getting Tebow into the game for red zone opportunities was a better option than watching the pocket sloth come away with a field goal most of the time.

    My main reason for wanting Tebow to replace Orton is two-fold. 1) The kid at the very least has the athletic ability to make lemonaid out of the lemons the rest of the offense seems to produce. The O-Line is horrid as is the running game….which really helps a QB that runs around in cinder-block shoes. 2) The kid has shown he will damn near kill himself to win. In contrast to Orton’s seemingly “I could give a crap as long as I get my 300yrds passing in garbage time” attitude, Tebow comes off as having more fire in his gut.

    That is how bad it has become for us Donk fans, we just want someone to show us they care about winning around here as much as we do because you will lose more than just games if the listless and lifeless performance of Monday night is allowed to continue.

    Classless may be a little strong Mr. Cobb. If this hadn’t been similar to so many other performances over the last two years I could maybe sway your way. As it is, Monday night’s display was just another in the long line of uninspired, inept football that has become SOP for this quarterback and the organization.

    To watch the pocket sloth start this year in the same manner (fumbling, bumbling, walking into sacks, skipping 8 yrd outs, interceptions and red zone panic attacks) as years gone by was sickening to watch. The coaching staff could have cut themselves some slack with the fans by putting Tebow into some red zone packages. Even McDoufus realized that having Tebow in the red zone was a better option than having Orton panic away the opportunity. But the Donks are nothing if not determined.

    My reasons for wanting Tebow to replace Orton are two fold.

    1) The kid at least has the athletic ability to make lemonaid out of the lemons the rest of the offense/coaching staff like to produce. The O-Line and the running game are horrid…..which really benefits a qb running around in cinder-block shoes. A defense that knows we can’t run, knows the O-Line struggles with pass protection and knows the QB’s shoe laces are tied together isn’t going to stack the box???? Wonder what the Raiders did Monday night?

    2) The kid has shown he will damn near kill himself to win. Contrast that to Orton’s seemingly “I could give a crap as long as I get my 300 yrds passing in garbage time” mentality and you would be hard pressed to convince the fans to not want to see what the kid has to offer.

    So my question to you Mr. Cobb is what has Orton done to deserve so many of the “experts” comming to his defense in this matter other than having been a below average (when it counts) and an average/good (when it doesn’t count) quarterback on a below average team? The bottom line is that this organization will lose more than just games if what we all witnessed on Monday night is allowed to continue because it’s the same listless, uninspired football we have watched for two years.
