I’m sure coach Doug Collins is smiling even brighter than one of his overdone eccentric shirts.

Earlier this week, CBS Sports’ writer, Matt Moore,  ranked all 30 NBA teams according to their summer off-season transactions and acquisitions.

The rankings are soley based on how a specific team, has or has not, improved it’s roster since last season. With the acquisition of the seven foot center, Andrew Bynum, the Philadelphia 76ers have garnered a commanding 3rd spot in the entire NBA, falling only behind Atlantic division foe, New Jersey Nets, and the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Boston Celtics were the only other Atlantic Division team to reach the top ten in CBS Sports’ rankings. There is only one issue with the rankings. The given rankings only problem is that it isn’t a pure indicator of the success rate for each team that was ranked.

For example, the New York Knicks, who arguably could be the 2nd best team in the Atlantic Division, were ranked 15th for off-season moves. These rankings are reassuring for the Philadelphia franchise, but not the best mark of skill for the soldiers from South Broad.

In the 2012 off-season, the 76ers acquired veteran guards Jason Richardson, Nick Young and Royal Ivey, big men Kwame Brown and Andrew Bynum, rookies Maalik Wayns and Arnett Moultrie, wing man Dorell Wright, and re-signed a few other notable Sixer stars in starter Spencer Hawes and back up post player Lavoy Allen.

The first indicator of the 76ers skillset will most likely come from the first preseason game in the middle of October. Other than that, the rankings do show signs of hope for a newer breed of team in the 76ers, and surely shows how capable the new team is.
