Philadelphia Eagles Lose Free Agent Safety Quintin Mikell to St. Louis Rams
Just hours after hearing that the Philadelphia Eagles will not resign a single one of their free agents, it was reported that the St. Louis Rams have signed strong safety Quintin Mikell to a four-year deal.
Mikell, 31, had been the longest tenured Eagles player (tied with center Jamaal Jackson). He joined the team in 2003 and was one of the more underappreciated players during his career, first as a special teams player and then as a safety.
He earned a Pro Bowl or All-Pro selection in each of the past three seasons and was named by Pro Football Focus as the sixth best defensive player in 2010.
Mikell tweeted the following after he was signed by the Rams: “I want to thank all of my fans for the awesome support,” Mikell wrote. “It’s been great playing for Philly. But it’s time to move on. Hopefully, I will continue to have your support as I move on. I’m very excited for the chance to play with a very dangerous and up and coming team. I’m a Ram now. Let’s get it CRACKIN!!”
Mikell and the Rams will host the Eagles in the season opener. Mikell is also reunited with former Eagles linebackers coach Steve Spagnuolo, who is the Rams’ head coach.
