The Philadelphia Eagles have been quite the hot topic since the lockout came to an end over a week ago–mainly because they continue to find ways to add key players to their roster for the 2011 season. While this year’s “Dream Team” should benefit from the addition of players like Nnamdi Asomugha, Dominque Rodgers-Cromartie, and Cullen Jenkins, one former player believes the team may have more problems than people realize–former Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb.

Maybe he’s just bitter about the organization making all of these moves two years after his departure, but McNabb had some interesting comments when asked about the Eagles and their so-called “Dream Team” they’ve put together for the 2011 season. McNabb talked with the media after practice on Tuesday and one of the hot topics of discussion was about his former team and how they may have more problems than people realize.

Here are some quotes from McNabb courtesy of Clark Judge of CBSSports.com.

“I was there for 11 years, and the biggest thing we brought in was T.O. [Terrell Owens],” said McNabb. “Now they’re getting the so-called ‘Dream Team.’ It’s amazing, but I look back on my career and what they’re doing now … that’s great; that’s excellent. But you’re seeing another side. You’re seeing Andy (coach Andy Reid) taking that chance. It’s not just taking that chance on one guy. They’re taking a chance on a bunch of guys. And they’re spending money. That’s amazing. Ever since the lockout [ended], teams have to spend money.”

“With T.O.,” he said, “after the first two or three weeks of training camp we felt like we had something. But you never say, ‘Aw, we’re going to win the Super Bowl. Fans say that. Radio says that. But now they expect them to win.”

“Now they bring in a Cullen Jenkins, and we all know he’s a dominant force. They bring in a Nnamdi Asomugha. You have Rodgers-Cromartie, who is the one they don’t mention the most because they have Asante Samuel, too. The problem is: What do you do with Asante Samuel?”

“Then, you’ve got to worry about DeSean (Jackson). When he comes back are you going to give DeSean the ball or throw it to (Jeremy) Maclin? Remember, you have to give LeSean McCoy the ball, too. And then at the end you still have to pay Mike Vick. They have more problems than people are looking at.”

McNabb spent the first 11 seasons of his career with the Eagles before he was traded to the Washington Redskins prior to the 2010 season. Other than the short stint with Owens, there were numerous occasions in Philadelphia where McNabb pleaded for the organization to bring in key players to give them a better shot at the Super Bowl–but they never made as many moves as they have this offseason.

Unfortunately, McNabb’s closest shot at being part of a “Dream Team” may have been during the 2004 season–when he received heavy criticism after the team fell to the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XXXIX. It’s safe to say McNabb is still bitter towards the organization for trading him to Washington and with these recent comments–it’s hard not to think No. 5 feels bitter about the Eagles not putting together a team like this a few years ago when he was around.

12 Rants to “Vikings QB Donovan McNabb Believes Eagles ‘D...”

  1. Jeff says:

Continue to cry McNabb. The money they are spending is because they were able to cultivate young talent and now have a few extra bucks to spend on making the team better. I agree “Dream Team” isn’t the words to be using but “The most upgraded and ready to win team” would work for me. You had your chance in 2004 and you forgot there was 4 quarters to that game just like you forget overtime rules. Must be old age!

    • rgreene says:

Honest question. Since the new agreement has a hard salary cap how have the Eagles been able to sign and pay these top free agents and pay their current players and stay within the cap? They have clearly outspent everyone on free agents. Just wondering. Anybody Know?

  2. Live from Quahog says:

It will be interesting to hear Mc5 praise the Vike’s FO for 16 weeks and then criticize when he’s no longer on the team. Maybe if Mc5 had hit his receivers on jersey numbers instead of shoe numbers he wouldn’t be so bitter.

  3. Rico says:

As they say Donny boy, Haters gonna Hate

  4. An Eagles Fan says:

Jealousy. Pure Jealousy. First of all. McNabb sucks, and as an eagle’s fan, I was happy to get him out of there when we did. I feel he served his purpose as best he could and then as soon as we began to fall, we cut the losses. I believe it was executed perfectly. Maybe if he didn’t get fat and could still move a little like when him and Vick went head to head in the olden days, he’d still be on the team, or possibly a force in the NFL. Now don’t get me wrong, he could never move like Vick could, but he could move. Now that the McNabb bash is out of the way, I’d like to dispute his claims. 1st- I believe Asomugha, Samuel, and DRC can co-exist. Asomugha has already claimed that he would like to be the Charles Woodson of the Eagles and be that guy in the Nickel. Even if he doesn’t, or they believe that is a poor move, they trade Samuel for a LB. 2nd- Don’t even bring up LeSean McCoy getting the ball. He rushed for over 1000 yards last season and that was with Vick AND Jackson. Jackson will get paid and have another outstanding year. Vick will get paid and be fine. LeSean will get his carries and be fine. And the D… I think Babin, Cullens, Asomugha, and DRC will be just fine when Andy is going through the X’s and O’s. 3rd- Have fun playing backup for the Vikings this year McNabb. Should be a great year. I hope we don’t take AP from you guys… If that happens, you guys wouldn’t score a touchdown all season.

  5. miamiderek says:

Eagles fans are unreal. They treated this guy like dirt since draft day, literally, and he’s the best QB that ever wore their uni-uh, yeah, Van Brocklin wouldn’t even be allowed in his shadow. Oh, were Iggle fans so happy when they finally dumped him, so they could start the Kolb dynasty! D-Mac’s a rare class act in the NFL-hope he wins one in his new home, maybe this team will actually buy him a weapon or two.

    • ehh says:

Eagles fans got tired of 11 years of wide open receivers being missed, big games being blown, and a QB who constantly deflected blame for it.

  6. RabbleRabbleRabbleRabble says:

    Sour Grapes.

  7. zach says:

i’m a Eagles fan and Donovan Mcnabb is the greatest of all time, He was the First QB i ever saw when i first started watching the NFL and one thing i know is he is just pure excitement on the football field (even to this day) he is the hardest QB to sack EVER and he in my opinion is the BEST EVER at the QB position when he was in his prime because he was the Total Package, he was our offence from 1999-2009 and i will say this and this is just a straight up fact and you can bitch and whine about it but the fact is if Mac 5 would of had weapons at the Wide Receiver position through 2000-2006 we would of won 2,3 maybe 4 titles. I Don’t care what people think, the man did it with 5th stringers at WR through 2000-2005 (and 2 of those years he came in 2nd in MVP voting) until we got T.O. 5′s go to guy’s at WR was Todd Pinkston, Freddy Mitchel, Chad Lewis, James Thrash and some other Draft Busts(and NOW Andy wants to Draft and Sign Weapons). We had a Three Headed Monster at the RB position and Andy wanted to Throw the Ball 70% of the time (and NOW he wants to run the ball more). As Great of a Coach Andy Reid is and as much as i like the guy, I just wish he would of done For Donovan McNabb (Mr.Class Act) what he’s doing for Micheal Vick (Mr.Just got Out of Prison), and of you don’t agree with that i can’t respect you as a fan because he took alot of Shit from Philly media and Fans for a lot of things that were not on him and he took it with a Smile on his face EVERY TIME (then he would go out and Prove the haters wrong EVERY TIME). its not that i don’t like V7 i just really think he is Over-hyped/Over-Rated. He threw a Game ending Pick (it looked like he was playing Jackpot)and got no blame, that’s what i don’t get because if 5 did it he would of been BOO’ed out the building and called a Choke Artist (just like in the NFC Championship in 2002,2009 and The Super Bowl). It just Blows my Mind and i will never understand it all i know is McNabb, Dawkins, Westbrook and Sheldon Brown are all thinking “why the hell did Andy Not do this For us”.

DAMN its like I wrote a book hahaha i got carried away. please don’t hate
    PEACE, LOVE, AND SOUL

  8. tom says:

This latest comment is just like when he would walk around on the sideline with his head held down, when things werent going good,Get over it and focus on playing good for the Vikings. What McNabb doesnt seem to understand is after ten years and no superbowl there had to be changes it was either him or Reid, someone was going and it turned out to be him, And it sure does look like that was the right decission, Not taking away from the years he played for the Eagles, Most of the time I enjoyed watching him play, But he just couldnt seem to get over that last hurdle.

  9. Dave Swift says:

McNabb was always a so so QB, missed to many wide open receivers and always put the blame on everyone but him self. he is not a leader always cried and never could win the big game. He was half as good as everyone thinks he was and he will never lead another team to the SB. he should retire and enjoy all the money he never earned. He is not a HOF player but because of his color he will get into the hall.

  10. kspecial41 says:

I am a philly fan. But I just dont understand other eagle fans sometimes. Mcnabb made the eagles a winning organization and he did it with a bunch of nobodys. And a lot of them act like last year was such a success. We got bounced out in the first round. So how is the Mcnabb decision clearly the right one if we still got the same results? People act like Mcnabb didny take us to 5 NFC championship games and a superbowl. And is Mcnabb wrong in saying the eagles never wanted to make moves to make them a superbowl caliber team? I think not.
