Howard Smith - US PRESSWIRE

Despite a badly bruised right hand that was initially diagnosed as broken, Eagles quarterback Michael Vick will take the field on Sunday afternoon against the NFC West-leading San Francisco 49ers.

In fact, he guarantees it.

“I think there’s a 100 percent chance I’ll be out there this week,” Vick said. “It’s a little sore, but gotta do what I gotta do right now and that’s try to get back on the field as fast as I can.

“The swelling has gone done tremendously. It’s getting better because I’m getting treatment, but it’s still painful and sore in different areas. Hopefully, put some padding in there and make it easier to bear, and I’m sure they’ll do that.”

This marks the second straight week that Vick will be starting despite an injury that was expected to sideline him.

However, he’s been unable to finish the last two games. Both times the Eagles led going into the fourth quarter but lost.

The Eagles are 1-2 and are facing a must-win game against the 49ers this week. I am thrilled that Vick is playing and his toughness factor is rising in my book, but he must finish the game while leading the team to a victory for me to be truly impressed.
