Danny Watkins has had quite a roller coaster ride as a member of the Philadelphia Eagles.
First, he was drafted with the team’s first round pick and was expected to begin the season as the team’s starting right guard. But the lockout and poor play in both training camp and the preseason led to him being benched in favor of Kyle DeVan, who was signed just a few days before the start of the season.
However, DeVan has been arguably the worst offensive lineman on the Eagles in 2011. According to Pro Football Focus, he rates as the 61st best offensive guard out of 69 qualifiers.
Today the Eagles announced that Danny Watkins will be making his first NFL start on Sunday, as the Eagles take on the Buffalo Bills at 1:00 p.m.
I expected Watkins to be named the starter after DeVan made a few games and I think this is a perfect time to do so. Let’s hope the big right guard can help the Eagles down on the goal line.
