Howard Smith - US PRESSWIRE

The Eagles season likely ended with an embarrassing 30-24 loss to the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football that basically summed up the 2011 season for the Philadelphia Eagles.

Like always, the Eagles took a lead into the fourth quarter.

Like always, the defense choked when it mattered most.

Like always (minus a Giants game last season), Michael Vick failed to deliver with the game on the line.

Like always, wide receiver Jeremy Maclin came up short in the game’s final minutes.

And like always (realistically, the fourth time in the last 12 games), the game came down to a DeSean Jackson punt return.

The Eagles dropped to 3-5, losing a game that they absolutely, 100 percent could not afford to lose.

As a result, their season is likely over. They trail the Falcons (5-3) and the Bears (5-3) by two games in the wild-card race. And they trail the Giants (6-2) by three games in the NFC East. Oh, and all three teams beat the Eagles this season.

Yup. The Eagles are finished.

On the night that Philadelphia boxing legend Joe Frazier died, so did the 2011 Philadelphia Eagles season.
