Howard Smith - US PRESSWIRE

It really couldn’t have gotten any uglier for the Philadelphia Eagles against the New England Patriots on Sunday.

Besides losing by 18 and essentially ending their postseason chances for 2011, a pair of coaches got into a fight on the sideline, and their top wide receiver was benched for the second time in three games.

Head coach Andy Reid chose to sit DeSean Jackson for the second half after the Eagles’ receiver dropped a pair of touchdown passes, costing the Eagles 10 points. On the first dropped touchdown, he appeared to pull his arms back to avoid contact.

Two weeks ago, Jackson failed to show up at a special teams meeting on Saturday morning, claiming his alarm clock didn’t go off and he overslept. He was benched by Reid for the game against the Cardinals the next day, which the Eagles lost 21-17.

It’s no secret that Jackson wants a new contract for next season. But if he continues to play the way he has, he won’t be on the Philadelphia Eagles in 2012, so some other team will have to worry about him.
