Are the Philadelphia Eagles Making Too Big of a Deal About Their Season Ending Four-Game Winning Streak?

All you hear when you listen to players on the Philadelphia Eagles, or writers associated with the team, is how dangerous the Eagles would have been if they made the postseason.

A four-game winning streak to end the season. A point differential of 79 in the final four games, which took their point differential from -11 to +68 by season’s end. And dominating defensive performances in all four games.

It’s given the team a little bit of swagger at the end of the season. Perhaps even cockiness.

And it’s completely uncalled for.

This is an Eagles team that was supposed to play in Super Bowl XLVI. At the very least, they were supposed to win the NFC East, and even that would have been considered a disappointing season.

So an 8-8 record that was at one point 4-8? It really couldn’t get more disappointing. Missing the playoffs is absolutely unacceptable. There is no excuse.

I don’t care if the Eagles won those last four games by a hundred points in each game. It doesn’t make up for the eight losses early in the season.

DeSean’s attitude. Vince’s interceptions. Maclin’s drops. Casey Matthews. Henery’s short misses. And I could go on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on. And on.

Four consecutive victories against teams quarterbacked by Matt Moore, Mark Sanchez, Stephen McGee, and Rex Grossman. I’m not impressed.

The Eagles always play well late in the season. I am happy that we finished strong. I like avoiding a losing season.

But I don’t like the arrogance or confidence of our players because of a couple of wins.

We went 1-4 against playoff teams. We blew five fourth quarter leads. Those are your real 2011 Philadelphia Eagles. Not the players who happened to win a few in a row late in the season.

The players should be able to admit it. This season was a colossal failure.
