Cullen Jenkins going with the Mr. T look

Several media outlets have been toying with the notion that the Green Bay Packers are interested in bringing back Cullen Jenkins, who was among the 2011 Eagles free-agent class that was supposed to bring the Lombardi Trophy to the City of Brotherly Love.  This move would make perfect sense for the Packers, considering Jenkins’ stellar play this year; but that is the same reason it would be moronic for Philadelphia to entertain the offer despite his $25 million contract and $5 million roster bonus that is due in March.

The Eagles have always been masterful at managing the salary cap, often times by locking up their young talent early and for several years.  While Philadelphia will probably have to shell out some money in the near future to star running back LeSean McCoy (based on his record-setting 2011 campaign) and perhaps to DeSean Jackson, if he didn’t play himself out of an Eagles uniform, there should still be plenty around for Jenkins’ roster bonus.

Jenkins had a monster 2011 season in Philadelphia, totaling 40 tackles and 5.5 sacks, which, for an interior lineman are impressive numbers.  Now is not the time to blow up a defensive line that played relatively well for the majority of the year.  What that group needs is time to continue to gel.  That could be a moot point, however, depending on what the Eagles decide to do at Defensive Coordinator.
