Philadelphia Eagles Need Big Target At Wide Receiver: Welcome In, Plaxico Burress
The Philadelphia Eagles are reportedly slapping the franchise tag on DeSean Jackson. Does that mean they are looking to keep the brash Jackson, or are they trying to potentially get something in return by trading him away?
Jackson will be slotted to make $9.4 million for the 2012 season. That is great money, however, the Eagles could be taking a chance on if the petulant Jackson is satisfied by playing on a one year deal. In an ideal world, DeSean will be on board and play the season at his stellar talent level.
I am O.K. with that. Just O.K. In my opinion, the Eagles still need a larger target for the smallish Michael Vick. A target that will go over the middle and, more importantly, be a real red-zone threat. Maybe, an individual that has been reported (WCAU and WIP’s Howard Eskin) saying he wants to be an Eagle.
Burress will not be commanding huge dollar amounts. He is attainable at a mid-level figure. Last year, the 34 year old gained 612 yards on 45 receptions with eight touchdowns. That is great production for a guy who missed two NFL seasons due to being incarcerated.
Plaxico is listed at 6’5 232 pounds. Burress would provide Michael Vick an excellent red-zone target. Fielding the trio of DeSean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin and Plaxico Burress would give opposing defenses a fit.
I am not a huge Mark Sanchez fan. He may have thrown 26 touchdowns last year, however, Sanchez’s completion percentage was 56.7. In what many called a poor year, Michael Vick’s completion percentage was 59.8. Adding Burress, along with a cohesive offensive line, that number will dramatically increase.
Burress will only be better in his second season back from jail. Additionally, Plaxico loves playing at Lincoln Financial Field where he has caught five touchdown passes. Some people want Randy Moss. I beleive Plaxico Burress in a no-brainer.
