Why the Philadelphia Eagles Should Absolutely Pursue Free Agent WR Randy Moss
Wide receiver Randy Moss just announced his intent to return to football for the 2012 season, despite not having played since the 2010 season.
Moss, who turns 35 today, played for the Patriots, Vikings, and Titans in 2010, but is a free agent and will be able to sign wherever he wants for the 2012 season.
The Patriots will likely be the favorite to acquire Moss next season. After all, he played there for more than three seasons (2007 to early 2010), set the single-season record for touchdowns (23) in 2007, and would provide a fantastic addition to already dangerous New England offense that includes Wes Welker, Rob Gronkowski, and Aaron Hernandez.
But I think the Eagles will also be in the running for Randy Moss.
To start with, the Eagles are rumored to sign virtually every single big name free agent out there. We actually did sign most of them last offseason (Nnamdi, VY, Ronnie Brown, Steve Smith, Cullen Jenkins), and we were rumored to sign some of the others, such as Plaxico Burress and Reggie Bush.
So I definitely think they’ll be bidders for Randy Moss.
And it makes perfect sense.
The Eagles will likely keep stud wide receiver DeSean Jackson. The Philadelphia Inquirer reported yesterday that the team is expected to franchise Jackson.
But that doesn’t mean the Eagles couldn’t use another playmaker.
Michael Vick suffered through a disappointing 2011 season. A big reason for that was the DeSean distraction, both on and off the field, and adding Moss, who still would rate as one of the best deep threats in the game, would help tremendously in 2012.
Moss would probably start the season as the Eagles’ fourth receiver, but I could see him playing in more than half the plays by the end of the season, and catching 50 to 60 balls for 800 yards and six to eight touchdowns.

Utterly retarded opinion by someone who apparently knows absolutely nothing about the Eagles. The Eagles haven’t paid big for troubled free agents since T.O. Wide receiver is their least needy position. DeSean could never be described as a “stud” wide receiver…..he’s unique and talented but stud, no. And since the Eagles are going to franchise him for an estimated 9.5 mil, why the fuck would they go out and get another wide receiver except through the draft. Idiot…whoever wrote this knows nothing about Philly.
