Philadelphia Eagles Former Quarterback, Ron Jaworski, Bounced From Monday Night Football
In 2007, former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback, Ron Jaworski, began his announcing gig in the vaunted Monday Night Football booth. Jaworski replaced Joe Theismann after just one disappointing season. Thank goodness, because Theismann was unbearable to me. Can somebody say pompous? Jaws made a five season run which gave him excellent exposure.
ESPN claims they made the move because they wanted to “get back to a more traditional two-man booth”. I think it is a big mistake. The banter between Jaworski and John Gruden was pretty fun. The two seemed to be in competition sometimes about who made the most valid points. Gruden will stay, along with the average Mike Tirico. Obviously, ESPN must think the world of John Gruden. I am not so sure.
Ron Jaworski is a great football analyst. He has been around the NFL since 1974. Jaworski has a keen insight into the game and can break down the X’s and O’s so the football layman can understand it. ESPN is aware of Jaworski’s value. In fact, the network re-signed Jaws to a new five year deal.
The new deal allows other outlets for Jaworski’s talent. With the latest NFL television deal, ESPN picked up an additional 500 hours of annual programming. Jaws will be joining the Sunday and Monday pre-game gang, as well as continuing his NFL Matchup show. Of course, during the NFL season, he will be a “go-to” analyst on Sportscenter.
I love Ron Jaworski. He is a football purist who is not afraid to speak his mind. I believe Jaws will add value to any of ESPN’s content.
As a player, Jaworski was one of the toughest men to put on a helmet. Many people forget Jaworski’s toughness and the fact that he had a very good NFL career. He played sixteen seasons compiling 28,190 yards with 179 touchdown passes (164 interceptions).
And do not forget, he brought Philadelphia a championship. Oh wait, the Philadelphia Soul does not count in my book. One thing is for sure, you got to love Jaworski’s passion for the game.
