Scott Hartnell is on a tear since being moved to the first line and just had a five-game point streak where he tallied ten-points, but I think the Philadelphia Flyers should ship him right now.

Now before I get started I know he has a no-trade clause (someone tell me why he has one) but I am sure you could get him to waive it.  At the very least he will give you a short list of teams that he would approve a trade to, because why would you want to keep playing on a team that wants to trade you.

Hartnell has a history of getting not just cold at times but ice cold.  Take a look at last year towards the end of the season in 18 games he only tallied five-points and didn’t score in 15 of those games.  Most people now forget during the Flyers cup run in 2009-2010 that he has a horrible final 12 games in the regular season only having three-points.  Also, the start of 2007-2008 season in the first 19 games Hartnell had four-points.

I know a lot of people will not want that first line broken up but with Jaromir Jagr and Claude Giroux clicking, a wet rag could put up descent numbers playing on that line.

Hartnell has a high-trade value right now, so why shouldn’t the Flyers take full advantage?  Like the old saying goes strike while the iron’s hot, and right now the iron is scorching.

It has been stated the Flyers cannot make it through the year and stay under the cap, so why not ship his big contract? Paul Holmgren the time is now, make this happen.

6 Rants to “The Philadelphia Flyers Should Trade Scott Hartnel...”

  1. An says:

    You are an idiot.

    • Johnny Machurek says:

Thanks for the constructive criticism and pointing out why exactly I’m an idiot. Moving him makes sense like I said a big salary need to be moved, why not him? You know his numbers will disappear at the end of the year and he will be worthless.

  2. IrightI says:

You’re an idiot because you have now sent notice to all other Gms around the league that Hartnell likes to disappear at the end of seasons. So whatever “increased” value he had…well, it’s now gone. If you are so naive that you think other teams wouldn’t read and review this website while in negotiations for a trade…well, you really are an idiot. Also…what do you suggest we get for Hartnell? You failed to mention this in your article. Try convincing us. You need to appeal to our senses. Should we get draft picks? Young studs with a high ceiling? Grinders, enforcers…you get the picture. I would simply suggest that you follow all the way through next time and suggest some possibilities that we might have fun discussing and contemplating. You have a lot to learn yet. Good luck!

    • Johnny Machurek says:

I doubt many GMs would pay attention to this and also if they didn’t know this already they aren’t doing their job. Any GM would know that just but simply looking over game logs. There is a lot of ways you could with the trade. I didn’t feel I needed to to propose an exact trade or what to get, the idea was more to state that the Flyers should think about moving him now.

      • irighti says:

No, you didn’t “have” to offer suggestions on what or whom we might get in exchange, but that’s what would have made it provocative.

Now, since you say no GM would read your article and that any GM would alread know the down side of Scott Harnell…explain why would his value be increased now. Yes, we have all seen his improved play on the Giroux, Jagr line. Don’t you think that all the GMs know that Hartnell’s play is a result of the line he’s on and not an improvement in his own play? Plus, as you yourself noted…if they are any good at their jobs, they already know about his end of season disappearing act. With all this in mind, why would his value be increased at the moment? Do you really think that all of us sports fans are dumb and blindly drink the Kool-Aid? Or, are you so short sighted that you didn’t really consider the depth of your own suggestion? Either way, an error on your part. I simply think that you need to consider all the angles before writing an article suggesting such a controvertial move. Otherwise, saddle up and expect a lot of responses titled, “you’re an idiot”.

        • Johnny Machurek says:

Because GM’s know on the right line he can be useful. Also, some teams out there are willing to try to add a power forward and also some GM like to make risky moves hoping it will pay off. Hartnell could maybe be the right move in some GMs eyes.
