News has just broke that Philadelphia Flyers captain Chris Pronger is done for the season with what is being called severe post concussion syndrome, could his career possibly be over.

A statment from GM Paul Holmgren was posted on PhiladelphiaFlyers.com

“After consultation with respected concussion specialists Dr. Joseph Maroon and Dr. Micky Collins, it is the opinion of both doctors that Chris is suffering from severe post concussion syndrome. It is the recommendation of Doctors Maroon and Collins that Chris not return to play for the Philadelphia Flyers for the remainder of the 2011-12 season or playoffs.  Chris will continue to receive treatment and therapy with the hope that he can get better.”

I’m no expert but I look at the end of the statement which says “…with the hope that he can get better.”  That part makes me worry a little bit, and makes me think that he might not be back.  I feel like this could end sadly just like when Keith Primeau was force to retire due to concussions.

Another factor is Prog’s age he is 37, does he really want to risk his health and come back.  With his age and the injuries he has had this season and last season, it really wouldn’t be prudent to come and risk even more damage.

Chris has done everything in the game, it isn’t like he a 37 year old who hasn’t won a cup.  Not only has he won a cup but was on the all-rookie team, won the Norris and Hart trophy in 2000, is a six time all-star,  and has two Olympic Gold Medals.

I see his career ending like current Flyer Ian Laperriere and being on the LTIR, so the Flyers can avoid his cap hit.

I think we are seeing the sad end to one of the legends of the game.
